I just wanted to share that I got a phone call from DH's aunt today, who heads the volunteers at our local hospital (where the twins were born)...turns out they have a little preemie (about 2 lbs) who was in urgent need of breastmilk, and mom's hasn't come in yet...she said they only needed 3 oz to get thru the day--so i sent them a 5 oz bag

the baby's mom called me a while ago to thank me, her voice was shaking, and to ask if i could continue to help (she is still hospitalized, but i'm not sure why--the baby was born last week)--they only need 2 oz per day!! her baby has not tolerated any of the high calorie preemie formulas they have tried and they had to remove his iv because his veins had been damaged....i'm not exactly producing in excess, but i'm sure i can spare a couple of ounces every day....she is so grateful, and i have this warm fuzzy feeling about producing milk for 3 babies now! how cool is that

mom also said she breastfed her 2 older boys for 6 and 8 months, but believes her milk hasnt come in due to the stress of the situation and her health (which i still don't know what the problem is)

any suggestions i should keep in mind would be appreciated!

You are her Angel! What a blessing to be able to feed another! I would continue to do it as long as you can/or she needs you to. I have the arrangement with my best friend to accept her breastmilk if I need it with my twins when they are born or there after!

I got chills when I read your message.

    Thank you for doing that,

    Missy

I know you asked for suggestions, but I guess as long as you are willing to help, it's a great thing for you to do!!

:bow2: WTG! That is an awesome gift! I'm sure the mom is so happy and that you are relieving some of her stress. Great job!

When my Nana had her twins, she actually breastfed a 3rd baby. The mother had actually delivered the 2.5 pound baby and ran away. The hospital needed the baby fed to survive. This was about 60 years ago.

So my Nana was breastfeeding, (not even pumping) 3 babies.

She has always been so proud to know that she saved that babies life. It makes me proud of her as well.

What I am saying is what you are doing is not only saving that baby, but it is something you will always have to be proud of and your kids will one day be proud of you for it as well.

How amazing that you're able to help out this way.....2 oz. isn't much, but still, it's incredibly generous of you to give it away -- I know I cherish every precious drop of breastmilk! But, as the pp mentioned, you are literally saving this baby's life....and your little ones are big and healthy, so they won't be hurt at all by sharing "their" milk....

We used donor milk in the NICU and to this day I am so grateful that when I think about those women who did that I just want to cry. They were so amazing! Ours was a part of an actual program. I'm so glad you did that. I would love the opportunity to return that favor. Good for you...lots of blessings are coming your way for sure!
