My twin girls were born at 30 wks and 5 days due to Preeclampsia. Today they "turned" 16 weeks old, but their adjusted age is 6 weeks old. (thankfully we all were home from the NICU after a 6 week stay!) Both of the babies can hold their head steady, follow you with their eyes, turn toward your voice, get startled by loud noises, lift their little bodies during tummy time, but have only smiled a couple of times. When will they start smiling almost all of the time or even coo? I know that all babies are different but I am curious as to what your little ones have accomplished at this age...Thanks in advance!!

Well mine weren't preemies so it's not going to be the same as yours...and to be honest, I have no idea! I think mine smiled right from birth, but it wasn't true smiles, it was just gas. LOL. I want to say around 3 months old they would smile for me.

I would have to agree with Aimee...mine were 2.5 -3 months when they started giving true smiles unrelated to gas. Sounds like your little ones are doing really well!!!

My boys were born at 33 weeks and it seemed like FOREVER before they were smiling much. We qualified for Early Intervention due to their weights at birth and had evaluations done every few months. It helped calm my worries. Maybe you could look into it in your state?

Mine were 32 weekers and they started smiling around 12 weeks and it gradually became more and more. As for the cooing, I want to say around 6 months they started making more and more sounds. GL. I would look into EI services and see if you qualify or talk to your Ped about them and see if he or she thinks they might need anything.

I think mine were smiling consistently by around 2.5 months. But they were full term at 38 weeks, so I'm sure it would be different for your little sweeties.

Mine were born at 31 weeks and Ryan started smiling right around the 3 month mark and Nathan just started smiling on a regular basis about a week ago. So it sounds like yours are doing just fine!

Around 3 months. It's such a rewarding feeling to see them smile and coo!! When I first heard mine, my heart just melted!
