I got a report from daycare that Lucas pulled himself up yesterday. At first I was all excited and couldn't believe it. Then the more I thought about it I got upset because I was not there to see it. So here is my question...if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it does it really make a sound...likewise if a baby meets a milestone and a mother is not around to witness....WTH do I put in the baby book?

LOL. I think it's up to you - you can put it in the baby book if you want, or if you'd rather wait until you see him do it for yourself - who is going to know the difference?

 One of my DDs started walking at the sitter's house. Thankfully she grabbed her video camera and captured the moment for me. Its up to you what you put in the baby book. You could put that date (and that it was at daycare) and then put the date of the first time you see it too.

Thanks for this thread. I was wondering the same thing. The girls start daycare on the 24th and I feel like I am going to miss everything. I just recorded the first smiles in our book. My DH said they were smiling, but I didn't see it. I put down the days when we were both there to witness it. Also they are holding heads up, but not enough to count for the baby book. I am going to wait till they do it more controllably. This is such a hard thing to pin down, since I am an exact kind of person.

For me, I had to see it all myself. Even if DH told me about it (I didnt believe him.).

I told daycare that unless I mentioned that the boys were doing a particular milestone, I'd rather not know they did it at daycare. Worked it's psychological trick on me so any time "I" saw something, it was officially the first time for "me."

I think I will talk to daycare and not have them report any major milestones. That way I won't feel like I missed out. Thanks for your support and sharing your stories.
