OKay... Today i am seeing a Midwife.. Instead of my OB, I think that kinda weird... Shouldnt Everyone with Multiple Pregnancys be seeing a specialist? I know I am not having any complications.. (for now) But it just seems like they are treating my Single Preg like any other preg. Just seeing me more often with more Ultrasounds...
Is anyone else seeing a midwife?

    Im just confused...

Perhaps it's just routine for your practice to rotate them in on the visits??... I know at my practice there was a Physician's assistant who was rotated in on routine ob visits... Not that she would deliver... I'm pretty sure that most hospitals require twin births to be attended by an ob/gyn regardless of whether or not a midwife is present...but I could be wrong... I'm sure your practice would never demand that you accept a midwife to attend your delivery versus a doctor...maybe they are just making you aware of her services....lots of people recommend them as a doula if you plan on going natural... I'm kind of interested in that idea.... except for the fact that I think I'd still opt for the epidural!!! I don't think the midwife would have anything magical to do for me to make the pain go away that much!!

I've refused to see the midwife and nurse practitioner at my regular ob's office. That's my personal preference b/c I would rather have the most trained professional I can see - plus, I would NEVER let a midwife or NP deliver my twins so what's the point of wasting an appt on them? that may sound harsh, but everyone's entitled to pick and choose their health practitioners based on whatever criteria makes them most comfortable - and I know mine.

I had the same concerns when I was still preggo. I didn't understand why I had to see the midwife or the nurse practioner in the practice, especially since I knew they wouldn't be delivering. Well, I didn't mind the midwife, I had rotated thru to her when I was preggo with Gabe and I really liked her. I did manage to avoid the NP though.

When I delivered, I had the midwife (she was the on call person) and 2 regular OBs. It was like a circus.

To me, when I saw Katie (midwife in the practice) she took more time with me and was more sympathetic to how i was feeling than the other docs. She's the one that finally wrote me a note to take off work! I worked till 35.4 and hurt so bad for so long that she was surprized that they hadn't taken me out before then. I delivered at 37.4.

My best advice is to go with your gut. If you are uncomfortable seeing anyone in that practice, refuse. Or see them once so that you can say you did. Best of luck!

i have seen mid-wives throughout all of my pregnancies and i would have it no other way. i have been going through the same office for almost 9 years so that helps. i have a regular OB and 4 mid-wives that i see through out my pregnancy(ies). i also have a Dr. office that i go to where all of my U/S are done. i personally have found that my mid-wives and my OB give me more accurate information than my Dr. unless i ask a zillion questions. but at my OB's office they are very quick to tell me what is going on and what i should or shouldn't be doing. and if there is a concern they all let me know what steps that they want to take and explain the pros and cons to each action. and i ultimately have the final say. all extra paper work is faxed in between both offices and so both offices know what is going on before i even get to my appt.

my OB or mid-wife (which ever one is on call at the time) will also be at the delivery to deliver or assist in delivery. my OB's office and Dr. office both are very involved with multiple births. there is actually a lot of twins and triplets being born within this year through my OB and Dr. offices. so i feel 100% safe going with my OB and Dr. office.

i hope that this helps. not all places are going to be like the one i attend so search around if you are uncomfortable. and if you have any concerns talk to your Dr. or OB. they can either schedule you not to see the mid-wives or give you an idea of other places that don't have mid-wives at their clinic.

    Lots of love!

I have a midwife who of course will be there with me during labor as well as an OB/GYN because of the twin thing. I've had a midwife with my previous two singleton pregnancies. I wanted it all natural and thats what I got. The midwife I am currently seeing has delivered twins before, with assistance of course and thats how it will be with my labor. I'm really happy with my midwife, she's there for me 24/7 anytime I need to call about any questions/concerns and I know she will be there for support during labor.

With my practice, I'm able to book appointments with whoever I'd like to see....mostly I've seen the two doctors, but I did book a couple appts with NP on purpose. One appt was simply because my blood pressure was creeping up, and they wanted to keep tabs on it -- I didn't feel like the doc had to see me for that.

Plus, the NP is very personable, and she gave me good tips like drinking a tiny bit of caffeine to help with hormone headaches, what to eat to battle anemia, things like that -- the doctors both seem to overlook the basic things that make pregnancy more comfortable.

One of the docs will deliver, of course, but in my experience I'm getting overall better care if I meet with the NP sometimes, since she brings other aspects of pregnancy care to the table....

Okay well i saw the Midwife today and she said that this would be the 1st and last time i would be seeing her anyways.. She did spend a little more time talking to me and explaining in more detail than the Dr would have. I enjoyed my visit with her but i feel a little bit more comphy with a Dr...
