Hi, everyone, I'm SO GLAD TO BE HOME!!!!! It SUCKS not having internet! I've been in the hospital for the last 10 days, and am home now on total bed rest.

Around 3:30 in the morning on Aug 6 I woke up feeling frequent BH contractions. They were between 2 - 5 minutes apart, and not painful at all. I guzzled a bunch of water, but it didn't help, and neither did a warm shower. By 7 am, they still hadn't gone away, so I went to the hospital.

The monitor showed that I was having contractions. The resident examined my cervix and said that it seemed to be long and about 1 cm dilated (which they said means nothing in someone who has given birth several times). My OB was called and he said that he wanted me to be observed for 48 hours and to get the 2 steroid shots. I was already scheduled for an ultrasound for the 7th, so they switched it from my OB's office to the perinatal clinic in the hospital.

I was pretty shocked when at the ultrasound they told me that my cervix had shortened to only 0.4 cms! Baby A weighed 2 lbs 13 oz, and Baby B was 2 lbs, 10 oz. I talked to my OB that afternoon, and he told me that he wanted to keep me in the hospital for about a week, when they would do a repeat ultrasound, and see if there were any cervical changes - if not, then I could go home, to do complete bed rest there. Unfortunately, he was leaving for a 2 week vacation.

So, my next ultrasound was on Aug 13, and I think it was completely pointless. They told me that they don't calculate the weights if the ultrasounds are less than 2 weeks apart, and that they wouldn't measure my cervix, since they already knew it was short. I asked the resident the next morning when I would get to go home, and she said that my chart said it would be at 32 weeks. I wasn't able to see the OB covering for mine until the next afternoon. Luckily, I know both of the OBs that were covering for mine, and the one I saw had a look at my chart, and said that as soon as antenatal home care nursing could be arranged, then I could go home!

I lucked out and there was a spot that had just opened, so I was told that I could go home today, and the nursing care starts on Monday. And when today rolled around, just before I got discharged, I started having more BH contractions, so I stayed there until they settled back down around supper time. It was so frustrating, because they told me that I will likely have lots of BH's but also told me that there is no specific number per hour or anything where they would want me to come in.

Through all this, my IP's have been great - they've brought by food and DVD's to watch on my laptop and at least one of them has visited every day. They have hired my mom to come and "replace" me here at home, at least until after Labour Day, when my mom goes on holidays and then comes back and has surgery. The hospital stay itself was SO BORING, there is no internet connection, and no phone hookups (so I had to use my cell). I was lucky to have a semi-private room, and 2 out of my 3 roommates during my stay were really nice.

Anyway, I'm just so glad to be home, even though I'm on total bed rest - I can only get up to go to the bathroom and can have one short shower a day. It's just nice to be in my own room, with my own bed, and everything close by.

LOL. I totally understand the feeling. I've been in the hospital for the last 11 weeks (this coming Thursday will mark the start of my 12th week) and will be here until I deliver or until my c-section sometimes during the week of 9/14 (hoping for the latter of course). Unlike you however, my hospital only has private rooms (Yay! ), and has a wireless connection, albeit an unreliable one (double yay! :woo: ).
Enjoy your time at home. I hope you get a nice nurse to keep an eye on you at home!

I'm at home on bedrest as well with the antenatal nurses coming to check on me. So lucky this is available here. ( I live in vancouver, B.C.) I've dreaded the thought of having to go into the hospital. Glad you are back home. There really is 'no place like home". Well, a beach somewhere tropical might be ok too :)
