I remember my DS loved his mesh teether (http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Teething-Feeder-Colors-Vary/dp/B00014PLGS). My girls are just shy of 6 months and we're getting on a plane next Friday, the day they turn 6 months. Is it too early to use one of these with them with a chunk of apple inside? I've barely introduced solids- avocado, sweet potato, rice cereal. I'll probably do applesauce this weekend.

We were using them by 6 months. I had more success with soft fruit than with crunchy fruit though, I'd probably give them ripe pear before apple.

Yup I gave Hannah a soft pear (canned actually) around 6 months:) She loved it! You could also try some puffs for the plane...less mess and you can feed them 1 at a time.

I would also maybe try Puffs for the plane. I remember how messy my two were with the mess feeder and I'm not sure I'd want to deal with that on a plane!
