Menstrual cramps/uterine irritability

I've just completed 4 weeks of hospital bedrest!! I'm having twins and I'm 28.5 days PG. My cervix has remained more or less stable - varies from 1cm to 1.6 cm depending on the u/s tech. I have tons of uterine irritability and I'm no longer on any meds.

I'm curious how many other twin moms on rest get lots of menstrual cramps, but cervix remains stable? When I'm hooked up to the monitor it shows no contractions just a whole lot of irritability. When I take Tylenol the pain goes away.

    Thanks!

Those "menstrual cramps" are most likely mild contractions. Labor pains don't feel like you'd expect. They feel like cramps, gas pains or like you have to poop but can't.

Congrats on 4 weeks! That is spectacular! You are such a trooper!

I have uterine irritability also. But i have the contractions too.
My doctor told me the irritability is essentially contractions that don't last long enough for them to actually consider them contractions.
I have it all the time basically and I take tylenol for it. It helps for the most part. I worry with the irritability and the contractions that I will have no idea when I'm actually in labor.
Even with all the contractions and irritability, I am still completely closed and long. So I guess its possible it won't change anything. Apparently its not doing anything for me, even though secretly I'm hoping it will. Is that awful? I want my babies to stay in to be healthy, but I cannot take this anymore!!!

Jenstwins - that's reassuring for me to hear since I'm only 28.6 days PG. I also heard the same thing from my doctor and Tylenol helps. I'm hoping to get to at least 32 weeks. At 35 plus you must be feeling extremely uncomfortable. Hope your babies make an appearance soon. Good luck!

I get uterine irritability and contractions ALL the time. Some days are better than others. Still on nifedipine which they want me to stop at 32 weeks but i intend to keep taking it until 34 weeks. Tynelol helps with the occassional cramping and backpain that comes with the cxs.....

As for my cervix, we have no idea what's going on because the perinatal doctor decided we should stop checking so as not to stir anything up. He said checking won't make any difference to what will eventually happen which is to deliver whenever the babies are ready - preferably after 35 weeks. But at 24 weeks when we checked, it had gone from 2.5 to 1.5cm.

Congratulations on being back home. Isn't it much better?????

I go off the terbutaline pump tomorrow morning and I'm FREAKING out!! I've been waiting so long to get off this nasty medicine and to feel better, but I'm so scared of what is going to happen. I want to go into labor myself and not have to be induced but I'm so nervous to also.
I read these stories about everyone having their babies in like 5 hours of labor and I'm praying it will be me, but know that these are my first and I'm probably not going to be that lucky.

    Are you guys scared?
