First of all, THANK YOU EVERYONE for helping me get through some of the most agonizing hours until I was able to have a doctor explain my results to me. I called this morning & could not get an appointment to "talk" about my results since I was already coming in for a scheduled appt...so I showed up there for my weekly progesterone shot and when the triage nurse saw my face she quickly took me back and of course I brokedown again. The nurse gave me my shot and then went to get another doctor so they could go over my results with me.

As soon as the doctor put my info in, up popped my results & don't you know there in big, bold letters was the sentence...PT TEST NEGATIVE FOR NEURAL DEFFECTS, NEGATIVE FOR DOWNS, only concern was that my hcg was at 3.7 and the cuttoff is suppossed to be 2.5. WHAT??? Now I was really confused. The Doctor explained that the only concern they have right now is that there is a slight chance that one of the babies could have a chromosome 18 anomolie and that could be one of 100 different problems & only an amnio would be able to confirm/deny it & if so whether or not the babie(s) would need surgery. He also explained as you all did, THANK YOU AGAIN, to me that these tests are not an accurate measure & that he would not have had me do this test. He figured that the doctor that called yesterday never really read the results but rather just saw an elevated hcg level and assumed that because in a singleton pregnancy that can mean downs that thats what my test meant. I gave him all my thoughts on her lack of bedside manner, her obvious misinterpretation of results & that I don't want to ever deal with her again.

These babies are mine and there are no words to express how much I love them. We have been to **** and back and waited for almost 5 years for God to bless us with them, all I want is to be prepared and ensure that they get the best care possible.

thank you for giving us an update. i've kept an eye on your original post today, to see if you heard anything. i'm sorry you had to go through needless stress! it's inexcusable that the person who gave you test results didn't understand them herself!

Thank you for the update! I am glad that you got things clarified at the doctor's office and I am also glad you told them what you thought of how they informed you! Doctor's can be so great, but also at times so technical that they forget the rest of us may need a little more personalization when it cmes to explaining test results!
