Earlier in the week I posted that I have had a headache for 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem. Some ladies did but now I have a different question. I went to my family doctor yesterday like my OB said to and he perscribed me Tylenol 3 with codeine. I called my OB this morning to make sure it was ok to take for me and the babies. She said it was fine but my husband and I are a little worried since I have had a headache for so long. So my question is has anyone else taking Tylenol 3 why being pregnant and was your doctor ok with it?

Thank you for all your help and listening:)

I took it early on for a very presistant cough. It made me a little nervous as well. So, I gradually weaned myself down from the prescribed dose. I took the minimum that would releave my cough. But both the doctor prescribing and my OB were comfortable with me taking it.

I was prescribed 2 every 8 hours. I ended up taking 1/2 tab every 12 hours.

I had a lot of headaches in the beginning and my doctor attributed it to increased blood volume. I have had all kinds of pain throughout my pregnancy including Pre-term labor and I have not needed any kind of narcotics. Pretty much any pain I had I managed with regular tylenol. If the headaches are extremely painful you may want to just take it at night to get sleep and try and use regular tylenol during the day. Also any pain that requires narcotics to relieve may want to be looked at again. I had a horrible cough a couple months ago and the ER doctor gave me hydrocodone cough syrup and encouraged me to take it to keep me from coughing myself into contractions. I went and got regular Robitussin DM and it worked just fine. If you don't feel comfortable taking it, don't take it just because the doctor prescibed it, I feel like doctors are a little too quick to prescribe narcotics there are times when you will REALLY need them. I'm sure it's safe to take, I personally just don't like the idea of pain killers unless the pain is unbearable.

I took it at 20 weeks for a week... me and Dh were in a really bad car accident, and I was prescribed that by my OB for pain.

I had to take a cough syrup with codeine around 15 weeks for bronchitus on top of a sinus infection. I was also nervous, but my OB wrote the script and I trust him. I took it, only for a few nights, until my antibiotics started working and the bad cough subsided. He specifically gave me the medicine with codeine to help with the cough keeping me up at night. He said my not sleeping was harder on my body and the babies than a few doses of the medicine.

Anyway, I hope that helps. I also avoid taking even regular tylenol when I am pregnant, unless I really can't handle the headache. I don't like medicine. But you know your pain better than anyone. Yes, it's safe; and if you need it, take it.

I had a spinal tap at 12 weeks with this pregnancy & it leaked. The result was 3 weeks of sheer pain. My Dr gave me Tylenol 3 & an antibiotic to try to relieve some of the pressure. Let me tell you, I took every single one of those pills.

My sis was also on Tylenol 3 during her last pregnancy for a long time. She had 2 herniated disks in her back & was in alot of pain. She took her pills for about 3 months & her Dr was fine with it.

I have deg disc disease, scolosis in my back and kyphosis in my neck (like scolosis just in the neck), including a condition that causes me to have headaches everyday from the time I wake until I go to bed and also a spinal cord lesion that will eventually cause paralisis. I am in a great deal of pain daily and also deal with neuropathic pain throughout my body. I had horrible headaches during the first trimester with my girls and I refused to take anything. I did it for the safety of the babies. Frankly, I dont care how safe a doctor says it is, it is always safer to deal with the problem(s) then risk a child's health, IMO. Just like they said Paxil was safe for unborn babies, now they are being sued for causing heartl/lung defects. You just never know so I wouldnt risk it.

I have been prescribed hydrocodne for my migraines and I have had to use it about 3 or 4 times, I was told it was completely safe.

  9. Doctors typically weigh the risk of taking the meds vs. not taking the meds. your doctor obviously believes it's better to keep you comfortable. I've been prescribed this in earlier pregnancies and have had big, healthy babies. HTH.

I was having a horrible time w/ headaches and was prescribed tylenol 3 - unfortunately it didn't help so on to percoset (which is tylenol + oxycodone) - that didn't help either so I only had a dose of each and just had to get through the headache period. I hope they work for you and I wouldn't worry about taking them to get through the rough patch. Being in constant pain and having those hormones and chemicals coursing through your body probably isn't great for the babies either so you have to weigh everything.

I was prescribed Darvocet by my OB for my migraines. He attributed them to low blood pressure. I'll try regular Tylenol at first. My DH has to make me take the 'script', but it takes the pain away. (He waits untill I am ready to cry.)
