My twins will not eat those Stage 3 foods that have meat in them (can't blame them, they are digusting!) We have pretty much switched to table food anyway. What kind of meats did you/do you give your 10-12 month olds? How do you prepare them and serve them (diced, shredded, etc)? Are there other GOOD sources of protein equivalent to meat?

    THANKS!

    Hi!

I make my own "soup" with chicken or beef. I'll boil a chix breast with some celery, potatos (sometimes I use sweet potatos) and carrots. Then I'll shred the chicken and put it in my cuisenart with some veggies and the broth. It makes a nice soupy consistency and the babies LOVE it!

I have found that when I do this with beef they like it more if I add a little prunes.

I have heard that lentils are also a good source of protein and iron if you want to have a meat alternative. I'm going to try that next week.

I haven't started fish yet....I think I'll wait until I get the go ahead from my ped at our appt next month.

I will start giving my LOs some of the chix shredded soon. I'm not quiet sure mine are ready for it though...if they ever get some thicker parts of the soup they'll make the funniest faces and push it out of their mouths....they look at me like.....WHAT THE HECK IS IN HERE MOTHER!

    GL!!!

Mine never liked any of the stage 3 foods, so I would just give them very tender and very small pieces of what we were eating. There are also some good crock pot recipes in the cooking forum that are easy and have very tender meat - and my girls really liked a lot of them.

We also would give them soup - just heat up the soup (we would use reduced sodium ones), drain off the broth part, and then you already have some small pieces of meats and veggies ready to go.

I did deli meat with no nitrates, chicken breast baked in butter, steak that was tender...all cut small.

I would give ground beef, soy patties, rotissirie chicken, meatballs (all cut small but still for finger foods).

great thread thanks for starting it.... been wondering myself. I pureed can of pork and beans with cottage cheese, they liked it. I still haven't ventured into homemade meat things.

Ground beef, rotisserie turkey breast diced small, baked chicken diced small, deli meat... beans are another good souce of protein too.
