As I was driving home today I had a thought about the way they measure your belly. Has anyone heard or read that measuring large can make you go into to labor earlier? I am just thinking that if I am 20 weeks but measuring 25 then how does that affect your uterus when you get to 40 weeks? Just curious...I know most twins come earlier but it seems everyone is doing good. Most posts have reported on average about 35-36 weeks. Any other interesting info feel free to advise! I just think pregnancy is SO amazing and I love learning all I can about it!

I read somewhere that twin pregnancies are always 4-6 weeks ahead (size-wise) of a singlton pregnancy. The numbers I remember are at 32 weeks for twins, you can be the size of a 40 week singlton.

Also, twins develop faster than singltons so they're able to be delivered earlier but healthy.

It's a combination of the two that lets you deliver healthy babies before the singlton 40 week mark. Everyone is different, though, and it seems like from reading TS that it's normally other factors, like mono/mono, pre-e, etc. that lead to early deliveries via induction or c-section. That would skew your belly size to delivery date results.

I'm not sure I answered your question... lol

That helps...I quess what I was thinking is how much can your uterus expand. Like if you are 34 weeks and the doc says your are measuring 40 would that be a sign that you will go into labor or can you measure like 45 weeks and still be fine. I know I am being confusing...LOL...obviously women have like 6 babies at one time and do "okay" but it just seems like your uterus can only get so big???

At my first Dr appointment my Dr said, that I will probably deliver early because I am a petite person. I am now 36 weeks, my uterus is measuring around 43 weeks, and my babies are measuring at 38 weeks. :shok: I'm not showing any sign of going into labor, and all things considered, I feel fine. I think you just never know what your body can do.

Well at 28 wks I was measuring at term for a singleton. There is no set "limit" on what your uterus can expand to. My water broke at 36 wks with my ds, he was 5 lbs 13 oz. So, I was hopefully thinking my dd would come early too....nope, at 39 wks my water broke (night before my scheduled c/s), and she was 9 lbs 12 oz.

Right now at almost 31 wks babies are roughly 4 lbs (I go for an ultrasound on monday to find out for sure), so they still weigh a hair less combined than my dd did at birth. I think most of the early/preterm births are for other reasons than just measuring ahead :)

i've been measuring about 10cm ahead since about 20 weeks or so. I'm current 33 + 4 days and i've dropped a bit already. At my 32 week ultra sound the girls were measuring 4lb8oz and 4lb9oz which is just over 9lb not including placenta, fluid etc. With my second son he was 10lb 6oz so i guess i will go till about then, which can't be long now.

I measured 43 cm for the last few weeks, no change. Twins were born at 38w2d. The babies measured 2 weeks ahead most of the time, they were born close to 8lbs a piece, gained 43lbs.

Hmm, not so sure about that one. My oldest was 9lbs2oz and I managed to carry 15 1/2lbs of twin ... so over 6lbs more! I think a lot of moms who can delivery large size singletons (LGA = large for gestational age) tend to have relatively large twins too, of course depending on when they're born. My twins weighed 4lbs5oz and 4lbs6oz at 30 weeks, and lower 6lbs range at 34 weeks. Again I never measured more than 43 weeks (41 weeks with my oldest, who also was a 41-weeker).
