I'm trying to decide if I should buy a maternity swimsuit. I didn't have to buy one with the twins since they were born in the winter. I don't really want to spend a lot of money on something I many only wear a handful of times. Are there any alternatives to maternity swimsuits? Would it work to wear a maternity cami and my regular swim bottoms? Do you own a maternity swimsuit? Is it worth buying one?

A friend gave me her gently used one but I haven't tried it yet. I did see a lot of cute maternity suits at Target recently. They're pretty inexpensive there.

I just bought a top at Target and will wear my regular bottoms - it was $20. I guess it depends on what type of swimming and how often. My 2 yr old takes swim lessons and I need to get in the pool with him, so a tank wouldn't work for me.

I found a cute one when I was expecting Liam. It was at Motherhood dept in Macy's and I paid under $25 for it.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting a tankini at Target and maybe wearing my regular bottoms. I think all of the Liz Lange maternity clothes are on sale at Target through Saturday so I will check it out.

I found a cute tankini at Motherhood Maternity for $25. I am going to wear it with my regular bottoms. I liked the Motherhood tops because they were nice and long.

I honestly didn't purchase "maternity" swimsuits because they were a little pricey and honestly not very nice... I continued to use my bikinis and eventually purchased a tankini.. I think it's cute to show some stomach! I live in a tropical country and am in the beach all year round... For me its great being pregnant in a swimsuit.. I dont have to suck in my gut!

I used both my tankinis and a larger size bathing suit for my water aerobics clas. Also try consignment sales and consignment store for used maternity swinsuits. But for me the larger size bathing suit work just fine for me. Good Luck!

I lived at the pool through all of my pregnancies - I mainly wore non-maternity bikinis with my singletons, but invested heavily in maternity tankinis with the twins. I found a ton of cute, reasonably priced suits at the Destination Maternity outlet in San Marcos, Texas - I only purchased A Pea in the Pod and Mimi suits (two that were La Blanca for Mimi)and was very pleased with the quality. I even purchased a few suits (they sell the pieces separately) for $1/piece! I know that there are other Destination Maternity outlets around (it's the outlet for Pea, Mimi and Motherhood), so maybe look for one in your area?
