Maternity Pants Are Not My Friend

For weeks now I have practically given up on wearing jeans altogether. The 3 pairs of maternity jeans that I own - 2 of them are too tight around the middle (they have a belly band, not a panel), and the other pair has the new panel that you aren't supposed to be able to see but they completely slide off of me (the panel and the pants) within about 3-5 steps. I have taken to wearing my maternity belt over those jeans just to keep them up. Is there no happy medium?

I am practically living in sweats or some type of stretchy pants at this point. And I feel so frumpy when I go out in public. <_< My baby shower is Saturday and even though I have a good selection of shirts that would be fun to wear I am so completely lost on what to wear for pants!

Has anyone had good luck with maternity pants? What brand do you love? Or is everyone else living in sweats like me? It would be nice to know I am not alone. ;)

This may sound completely crazy, but I actualy found a pair of non-maternity very low rise jeans that I was able to wear UNDER my belly! I hated the maternity jeans, too - that band was so tight! I never tried the panels, though. These were actually ultra low rise jean capris from Old Navy. You'd have to try them on at the store to see if it would work for you, but for me, it was amazing. The material was a really soft denim and they were nice enough to make me feel decent wearing them. I still have them - I wonder if they'll fit me this spring LOL! Most of my weight was in my belly, though, and all up front so I guess that makes a difference. I could actually button them under my belly until I was at least 7 1/2 months...I think I started using the belly band with them when I hit 8 months, but then I had the babies a week later so who cares?

i have been wearing the same maternity pants since 22 weeks when my DH drug me to a store to get them. i'm all belly and out front also, and think i could probably wear jeans under it, but i dont. Since im mostly house and bed-bound, i mainly live in jammie bottoms and t shirts, or sweats.

Full panels fit me better the bigger I got, but I never did find a pair of maternity pants that didn't slide down. Perhaps a skirt would work better. I did have some maternity skirts that were very comfortable and those didn't slide down like the pants.

I have found a pair of pants that i absolutely love. I found them in a local store that mainly sells baby stuff. They are called Perfect Pants. They are black stretchy pants that fit really well and are super comfortable. They were around $58, but so worth the price. The other great thing about them is that I will be able to wear them after I have the babies. My mom bought a pair for her and my sister. Here is the link http://www.perfectpant.com/. I hope this helps.

I am so disgusted with maternity clothes! I have been searching for something to wear to my shower but I feel like everything I find is styled for a 60 year old and I'm only 25! I went to old navy and the one close to me only had half a wall of maternity stuff so I'm gonna try a different one, but all the dresses were like moo moo's down to mid caf not very flattering I just looked like a huge ball no definition at all! So far I've been wearing non maternity clothes leggings and flowy shirts from forever 21 and a pair of brazilian jeans I found at the mall that were super low rise but had some room in the bum. I have one pair of the panel your cant see jeans my mom got me but they keep falling down also!,,,,,,Ugh

Your post sounds just like what I've been experiencing. I've been using the maternity belt to help keep the pants up. The full panel ones are the most comfortable by far. I have a stretchy dress from Old Navy that I love. It's very casual, but so soft. I have a denim skirt from motherhood that I love, too. Again, it's full panel. I just find that the low rise of the actual fabric on the full panels sits in the right place. Then the panel is pretty comfortable. It seems that at 34 weeks, most of the panels are pretty stretched out. Thankfully, I'm done working and don't worry too much about having to readjust the panels throughout the day.

I feel your pain!!! I gave up on the jeans a couple of months ago. Maternity pants are the bane of my existence and I can't wait to be done with them forever.

Okay, for you that DO wear the low rise, HOW do you do it? I mean, my belly juts out at a hard 45 degree angle at my bikini line and since most tops are teetering on being too short anyway, my belly is showing in a most unflattering way if I wear them. Not to mention, my belly pushes the crotch of the pants down much lower than it should be (even low rise...also unflattering not to mention uncomfortable. I HAAAATE the feeling of saggy pants!!!

My theory on the jeans falling down...they're so heavy and manufacturers are using that very lightweight stretch panel now. So there's no chance of that fabric being able to handle the weight of denim. I have a lightweight pair of stretch poly-blend dress pants w/ the full panel that stay up beautifully, look nice, and are comfy, too. Got them at Motherhood. Other than that, I live in yoga-style pants (also got them at Motherhood). They're super comfortable and honestly, a couple pairs are not too schleppy looking. I get away with wearing them w/ decent shoes and a nice top for going out. Most people don't get past staring at the ginormous belly anyway, so I doubt anyone notices.

I have officially packed up all of my maternity jeans forever. Just not going there anymore.

I bought my maternity jeans at Kohl's and I never had that problem. They weren't the most comfortable pair of jeans, but I don't remember them sliding down. I also bought a black pair of dress pants at Kohl's that worked great. They were so comfortable and felt just like my comfy pants I would wear at home.

I hear ya sister. I have been wearing my maternity belt over my pants all along because everything will slide right off. I like the panel better than the band because it does not pinch me off at the belly. I wear my DH shirts because they are long enough. I look and feel frumpy and horrible too. I cannot wait for this to be over!

You're so not alone in this!

If you can get away with it, i learned that going into the regular clothes section and finding pants with elastic or drawstrings work great and fit under the belly just fine, thats what i've done in the past & now. If your lucky, not only can you find some nicer dressier pants, but i on occasion have found jeans that way as well. Maternity clothes are indeed the devil and since every woman pops out differently there is nothing that works really for everyone. At least people are understanding of prego ladies and don't expect them to be totally dolled up. :D

I was one that lived in sweats. I found them the most comfortable. I don't remember where I got my dressy pants from, but I hope you find some before Saturday. If not, I'm sure no one will mind if you are in sweats. :good:

I hated full panel pants during my first pregnancy but with this pregnancy, they are my best friend. I've outgrown my
"real waist" and demi panel pants and live in my full panel pants or in maternity skirts. Those fit very well!

I am so glad I am not alone :grouphug:

But on the other hand, I am sorry for those of you struggling with the same thing! What a pain, huh? I am normally pretty stick straight - not much chest to speak of. Wouldn't you know the one time I grow boobs and have womanly curves there is nothing that fits. Go figure.

I love all the ideas you've been sending out - skirts, low rise jeans, perfect fit pants, etc. Keep 'em coming, ladies! I just spoke to DH and he is going to watch our little boys tonight so that I can run to the local outlet mall and attempt to find some pants. We have a Motherhood outlet, so that is an option. But honestly I have gotten so many pants there already and they are not working. Maybe I will see what they have for skirts too. I will also check other stores for super low rise jeans. Something has to work. Right?

looks like we all have something in common! I'm just glad that it isn't going to last much longe. But like someone else said, I don't go out that much anymore so I only have to deal with it at those times.

I have had the same problem!! I don't really have hips or much of a butt and all the maternity pants I have tried on look like I'm wearing a diaper. Apparently you have to have hips and a big butt to be pregnant ?!?! Well this weekend I went to burlington coat factory and found two pairs of full panel denim capris that fit a lot better!! And they weren't very expensive. Soo thats what I have worn all week! :) And about what to wear to your shower... what about wearing a dress? I don't know how to weather is where you live but a cute flowy dress might be comfy!! Good luck!

I think I misspoke about my happy dress pants. Thinking about it now, I may have gotten them at Kohl's...but they were the Oh Baby (Motherhood) label.

I second the suggestion about the dress. I lived in dresses and skirts w/ my first pregnancy...SO much more comfy than pants! And for the record, I had the same pants issues w/ that pregnancy (which I got pretty big during), so it's not limited to just those of us w/ twins. Maternity pants just suck.

I had the same problem when I was pregnant with my boys. I went to Motherhood and bought the full panel pants. They were only $25 and super cute AND super comfortable!!

    Good luck!! :woohoo:

i had the same issue the further i got along and the only thing that worked for me was the stretchy gaucho type capris (i know they aren't jeans or pants) that i would dress up with a cute top and cute shoes(until i swelled up so bad that i could only wear my flip flops at the end). They were what i lived in the last trimester. I think old navy carries them.

I've been living in stretch pants for the most part. One pair from JC Penney loungewear dept and the other from Gap. I have 2 pairs of full panel maternity that I can still wear - jeans (cause they are stretch) and cargo pants.

For my shower, I wore a dress from Motherhood. I think it cost like $30 and I will wear it later. I also wore it to my niece's wedding. You might check there or Old Navy - I think those Maxi dresses look great for pregnancy.

I'm living in over the belly stretchy pants. I have a few pairs of nicer ones, but the rest are sweat pants or knit stretchy yoga pants. If I have some place nicer to go to, I have a few over the belly skirts that are really comfy. I can't wait for the weather to get a bit warmer because I have a bunch of sleeveless dresses that I bought at Old Navy when they were on sale and I plan to live in those.
