Okay, so I have a problem. I wear a lot of tank tops in the spring and summer. I know they say that you need a ton more support when pregnant and nursing, and I totally agree. But, all the straps are so stinking THICK! I know I need more support, and for most women that means going from a regular supportive bra to a super supportive nursing/maternity bra, BUT...I dont usually wear a bra at all. So, I am thinking that the next step up for me would be to just get a few regular bras while I am pregnant (obviously I will need nursing bras once I am nursing, but I will cross that bridge when I get there). I was just wondering what you ladies think. I am completely unable to find anything. AND...I have ONE maternity hand-me-down built in bra tank top. and I love it, love it, love it...but I cant find any anywhere...that would be perfect for me for summer because then I could layer the tanks. I know style doesnt matter, and it never has for me before, but I just dont wanna walk around in spaghetti strap tanks (which I will want to stay cool) with big old thick straps stickin out. Grr.

Sorry, that turned into quite the little novella. TIA for your help! :D

If there is somewhere better to have posted this, please link for me! Thanks! :hug99:

You could try these. They should work for maternity and nursing.

I found something similar at Target for about $12. They came in grey, black, and white.

I used several of the nursing ones from Target (loved them!), and also looked in the "workout" section, where I found tanks with the built in bra as well. Depending on how big you are, they might work for you to wear "out"...I'm on the larger side, so I usually slept in them so that I could keep a nursing pad on during the night for leaks. Frankly, also, I needed the larger straps just to have better support...once the nursing starts, those babies need all the help they can get

    Good luck!
    :) Nicole

I actually bought one of these, and the material is sooo thick, and so are the straps and the entire top shows above all my tank tops! I suppose I am just too picky.

Thank you ladies so much for your suggestions!

I wore these while I was pregnant. Wouldn't work for nursing but they I loved them while I was pregnant and still wear them now! And they have them buy one get one 50 percent off right now!

Try oldnavy.com maternity section. I bought one of their maternity camisoles and wore it under the insanely low cut maternity tops that were everywhere last summer (why do they think all preg women want to show off their rack all the time???)
It was pretty inexpensive and had a shelf bra built in. Check them out Here

I hate bras also! Will never wear them in the house. While nursing I found that they just annoyed me. Actually a lactation consultant had also told me to avoid them as much as I can after I had a torn nipple. It healed much quicker without them. I wore t-shirts or tank tops instead and felt very comfortable. I'm not particularly large breasted though so maybe that made a difference.

Go to motherwear.com -- they have what you're looking for. Congrats on having small enough boobs to use these -- That was certainly not the case for me :) I'm a G/H cup now and have been since AUg 06.

I too got the nursing tanks from Target and while they were a great idea, they didn't work so well for me, I need a little more support than that. I can never wear the regular built in bra tanks, when not pregnant.

When I was pg, I just continued to buy regular bras that fit me and were comfortable. I figured I had no idea what my eventual size would be once I started nursing, so why should I have to wear nursing flaps if I'm not nursing? It worked well for me, as my nursing size was bigger than my pg size and I would've had to buy all new bras anyway.

Thats nice to hear. Maybe I should talk to my midwives and see what they think. Maybe I shouldnt be investing in this stuff at all if I will be able to go back to wearing nothing when my breasts arent so sore from PG! Thanks for all the advice ladies...soo helpful!

Thanks for that as well! I feel like everyone is like "support support, you need crazy support for your HUGE boobs!" but in reality, they arent HUGE! And, I think wearing a regular bra would be fine. It is good to know that someone did that and didnt regret not having the AMAZING support of MATERNITY bras! :) Thanks!
