Well our placentas were fused so we are MATERNAL......Ohhhh, well nice meeting you I say and just bust up inside laughing! :rotflmbo: Maybe this is an "old school term" I dunno know but it just took me off guard coming from a twin!!!! Just thought I'd share!

I got told the other day that a shop assistant was a twin and she was 85% identical with her sister! I wish I asked which parts were different!

I HAVE heard this term before. I was asked by my chiropractor if my girls were Maternals or Paternal twins. It's an old classification/terminology.
He explained it to me but here is a link that I found where someone explains it:

Oddly enough, it actually is an older term for Id. twins. I googled it. Not much came up, but there is some out there. Must people think it's a mistake, no such thing, but it is. She said it herself, the placentas were fused, so maternal or id twins. You might run into the term about as often as her hear a bathroom called a water closet. :pardon:

well now Im confused! My girls are fraternal but their placentas were fused (I saw it myself, looked like one big placenta with a line down the middle!) so are they maternal twins????

My MIL keeps on telling people her grandkids are paternal twins. She's beyond correcting.

Fused placentas = di/di which was once presumed to be fraternal and I'm sure that's what she meant.
