Did anyone take these classes in their area? DH and I would like to take a class geared toward care of multiples and I wanted to know what everyone's experience with this course was. I'd prefer to take a class that will have lots of info on managing once they're here...but does this class focus more on pregnancy and childbirth?

The hospital I'm delivering at has no multiples classes, but they do offer a baby care class as well as standard childbirth classes.

    Thanks in advance!!!

Personally, I loved the Marvelous Multiple class we took. They did deal with pregnancy and a little bit of the birth process. As far as the pregnancy part of the class went it was geared toward specific issues with multiple pregnancy and not the general pregnancy info you would get from a traditonal class. I will say that I did take a birthing class with our first daughter and found it useful and very different from the multiples class. There was a little bit in the class about caring for multiples, but it was not like the infant care classes you can take specifically... We took infant care and infant CPR with our daughter and I would definately recommend taking this if you have not had a new baby before. Another class I would reccommend would be a breastfeeding class. Even if you don't think you are going to take this route it does give you a clear understanding of how to breastfeed and they did discuss breastfeeding multiples in the class as well. The best thing I can tell you about that class is that you really learn a lot about feeding in general that would be useful for a breastfeeding or bottlefeeding mom.

Another thing to keep in mind about all of the classes you can take or that are available is that they all provide an opportunity. The main opportunity I found was that it gave my husband a chance to really feel a part of the pregnancy and the process. It helped him to understand how I was feeling both physically and emotionally as well as to connect to the baby(ies). I found that when we took the birthing class with my daughter he really was able to connect to the pregnancy appropriately for a singleton pregnancy. He learned what to expect and how to offer support. When we found out this time around it was twins he had a hard time understanding the differences and how I was feeling... He thought I should be doing more and feeling better and really saw no real difference between carrying on vs. 2 babies. The multiples class was a HUGE eye opener for him. In fact, it was the first time he considered the possibility that not only might these babies come early (our daughter was 5 days late), but that they would likely be smaller (daughter 10lbs.4oz), that they might have to go to the NICU, and that they might not come home from the hospital at the same time we come home. Not to mention food and calorie intake needed for a healthy twin pregnancy. So, consider the needs of your family and see if these are things that your family might need a wake-up call on... ;)

We took a multiples class that was offered through our hospital and it was great! I definitely recommend that over a regular birthing class.

If I can find one in my area - I'm going to take it. That sounds like a great class.
