So we bought big girl beds for the girls back in March... found some really cute canopy beds for $99 each on sale and jumped on it. Now we are ready to move them in and have to buy mattress sets.. Ok, so ALONE they are't that bad, we go ours for $185/set. But TOGETHER, Jeez, having twins is a SERIOUS blow to your wallet! LOL And then we have to buy bedding - at first I was looking at sets that were $150/each. Yep, then I realized just how much that would be for TWO of them, and quickly changed my mind and decided bedding from Target would work JUST FINE.... LOL

Thank goodness I can pass their toddler bed on to their younger brother - just a quick coat of paint to change from white to brown and voila! A cute little boys bed..

The range is huge. A lot of people recommended PBK or Land of Nod to me for bedding -- yeah, right, when a single sheet is $50. I bought bedding sets at Target from the "Do Your Room" line and we like them just fine. They're actually really nice and soft. (But I don't recommend the "ReNew" or "ReDecorate" or whatever it is line -- that one is intended for college students, and I guess Target thinks they don't care what their sheets feel like. I just bought a set as a backup, and they're transparent and scratchy.)

I also got some sheets from the clearance bin at Macy's -- Martha Stewart Living, for about $13 a sheet. Especially if you don't care whether they match (though I happened to find some that did), that can be a great way to get good sheets for cheap.

DH and I buy ours at Overstock.com, because he's a thread-count snob and that's the cheapest way (we've found) to get 300+ thread count without breaking the bank. But the kids, fortunately, don't know or care about thread count.

For the kids' beds, I really like the "pure beech" jersey knit sets from Bed, Bath & Beyond:

    Sheet Set

They're $20 for the set, and with a 20% off coupon, that's really not bad! Plus the sheets are very soft, and my kids all like them. And, my girls get pink sheets, which makes them both happy. (Kevan couldn't care less, LOL.)

I don't really like the feel of them for our own bed, but for the kids, they're just great. Easy to wash, too.

The kids use soft, fuzzy blankets over this, but for something decorative on top, I bought quilts from Overstock. For Nadia, years ago I found a doll clothes quilt that is a knock-off of a very expensive Land of Nod one. This has now been passed on to Karina, and Nadia has a quilt set that I randomly found at Sam's Club.

I got Kevan's quilt at Overstock, too -- it has big puzzle pieces on it, and it's really cute! It's neutral, and fits well into his sports-themed room.

I hear ya - I love Pottery Barn Kids, Land of Nod, etc. -- but very rarely can I justify the expense. (I do splurge on a few accessories when they're on sale!)

I don't think your cheap at all! Things get expensive when it's always x 2! I believe you got to take the deals when you get them and your kids aren't going to care if you spend $10 or $50 on sheets.

Okay, this thead is making me cringe![IMG] H & N's birthday is the 24th and we promised them big girl beds. We haven't actually looked at anything yet, probably next weekend we'll start. I like the jersey sheets Becca recommended. We used to have jersey sheets on our old bed and they were super soft, great price too! At least they are in seperate rooms and have different tastes so I'm hoping not having to find two will help us find some bargains.

I totally hear you bedding is expensive. :faint: Especially when you need to buy 2 of them. I found a really nice quilt set for both of mine at Costco for a decent price. :good: I am not willing to spend a lot of money on bedding. :pardon:

And Target has some very cute bedding!! :good:

Well, Target it was, and we DID find some cute quilts, though they were still kinda spendy... $50 each for the quilts and $14 each for the sheet sets..

I would've (and tried) to use some old jersey knit sheets that I *thought* I had hanging around the house, but dangit I guess I got rid of them!

I really like what we DID get, and when I'm finished accessorizing (DEFINETLY next paycheck! LOL) Hopefully it will look really nice...

Now, can anyone help me find THESE stencil kits for any cheaper?? I want to get the transportation one for my son and the garden one for the girls - but at $100/each for something we will use ONCE, I'm REALLY having a hard time with the cost justification.

Glad you found the bedding that your happy with...and not so bad on the wallet either!! I think no matter what bedding you buy, once you finish "accessorizing" it all comes together. I am sure you will do an excellent job!

BTW~ I don't think you are cheap at all. I refuse to spend alot on bedding...so if your cheap, then I'm cheap.

I wish I could help you with the stencils, but I don't have a clue.

We just recently went through this. We are still in the process of fixing L&M's room. I  PBK, but couldn't justify the cost and DH would have killed me. They saw some bedding at Wal-Mart they really liked and then we found sheets at Target for $15. Not the best thread count, but ok for them. Also try Home Goods for accessories.

We ended up going to IKEA for everything when we redid their rooms last month. EVERYTHING: big boy beds, bedding, dressers, mattresses, etc. together cost us less than a one bed/mattress set at another store. Their bedding is really cute too! Target is great as well, just thought I'd share another alternative if it's close to you!

I agree...the cost is outrageous..even some of the target stuff can get pricey. I did do PBK, but went the clearance route and ended up with some really cute stuff that was reasonably priced..of course I had to mix and match because they sell out quick, but it was much, much cheaper.

I agree, a lot of those PKB and Land of Nods are outrage prices too but I keep an eye on their sales if I really wanted that 'stuff'. I am hoping down the road within 3-4 months that we will split our twins' up. I have girl/boy and have been wanting to get into bedroom theme before they grow up too quickly as they just turned '3'. I love all of the ideas especially the wall decal is what I want to do for both of them. Anyhow, I have been keeping an eye on Target, Lowes', or Home Depot for those wall decals. Beside I already purchased a bedding for my son because he is getting a sport room.

Suggestion: Have you tried out at TJMax? I love our store called "Home Goods" They got some fabulous accessories for girl/boy room. I just saw 4 hand paint square picture (no frame) for $8 each for the sport room.

Keep sharing your ideas with link website!

About the stencils... I think I'd get a projector instead so you can use it for future projects. Heck, you can get a basic little projector at JoAnn for $50 and spend the other $50 on something else ;)

And I agree with the others -- you're thrifty and practical, not cheap. I buy sheets at TJ Maxx's Home Goods store. I just bought a new queen set the other day for $39... 600 thread count cotton sateen and they're FABULOUS. Cheap would be getting used sheets off of Freecycle.
