We had our 9 month appointment yesterday & the Ped was concerned that the boys aren't saying Mama and/or Dada. Believe me, they jabber it ALL day (amongst other jabberings), but I don't think I've ever been fully convinced that they know what they're saying. He said they should by this age.

How old were your LOs when they said Mama and/or Dada & meant it??

I'm trying to remember that one. I know it was well after 18 months (yes, eighteen!) for my girls. They started babbling the sound around their first birthday but didn't catch on that it was us until recently.

Mine speak jibberish all day too and I have yet to be convinced that they ever know what they are saying actually I think they know but I definitely don't. They can now kind of copy sylobols like Dh's name is Greg and if I call him one of them will follow with "GAG!!!" or I hear "ER-KA" (my name is Ericka)all the time. Dh now gets called dada but so do I :p . The other "words" I get now are DDDDTCHHH and that's after I have told them 75 times "Don't touch!!!" and "Witcheta" which is always after I ask them "Whatcha doin" I think they understand eachother and aren't all that interested in making sure we understand them so I would think this is probably something common with twins.

My two have just started the jabbering and babbling in the last week or so, most of it is nonsensical, DS does alot of 'agee' and 'agoo's, DD just yesterday did dadadada one time, and I haven't heard anything other than shreiks since.

My PED said to expect Dada a little before their first birthday and Mama a little after!

She said at 9 months they still lack the ability to assosiate a word with something and then vocalize that knowledge.

    Dont worry!

I think your ped is worrying you for no reason.

One of mine babbles all day, but doesn't associate mama or dada with us. The other one doesn't even babble yet. Our ped isn't concerned at all.

My older one didn't start saying mama or dada until well after 18 months (although she did sign both before then) -- and now I hear MOOOOOOOOMMMMM from across the house all too often, LOL.

    I really wouldn't worry!

The boys are saying "dada" and have been for like 2 weeks or so now. They also say "Mama" but usually when they are crying, its more of a wail when they are upset. I know they don't know what they are saying but is it too much to pretend?? :D
