Is there some kind of trick I'm not aware of to make sandwich bites stick together when I cut them in pieces? They just end up with pieces of meat, cheese and bread on their tray, and it really doesn't work well to sneak in some stuff in there :(

when i make sandwhiches, i dip the bread in a little egg, then in the pan. the girls love it. and it kind of helps things "stay together"

My only thought would be to use a different kind of bread, like a really soft bread that kind of sticks together when you cut it with the knife. Maybe using a butter knife rather than a really sharp knife could help, too? I'm just guessing. The bread my allergic kids eat is not very soft so we only do open-face sandwiches (cut up bread with toppings).

Sorry, I'm no help but I'm hoping someone else has answers. The boys don't really eat bread anyway, but I did try to make a pb&j for them this last weekend. That was a mess because it all just fell apart.

what kind of sandwiches do your 13 monthers eat?

My 3 y/o ar just getting to a point where they sometimes eat it as a sandwich and not take it apart anyway.

Cream cheese! It goes with everything, and it sticks everything together. :)

Like Becca, I was going to say melted cheese - you can hide a lot under there - but honestly, it's really hard for my guys to eat a mouthful big enough to get a little bit of everything in at once (contrary to the picture at left). I think picking it apart is pretty universal.

my twinnies just pull it all apart anyway so now we have meat, cheese, toast in lieu of sandwiches. things like peanut butter and jelly and grilled cheese stay together better but still get pulled apart and eaten open faced.

are you toasting the bread? i think babies still need it toasted at this point because there's danger of fresh bread balling up and becoming a choking hazard in their mouths (ok, that sounded totally scary when i said it! but that's what my parenting class teacher told us... and it kind of makes sense, right?).

i also seem to use cheese in most sandwiches, which helps "glue" everything together... also, we're big on quesadillas here, so we use tortillas a lot instead of sandwiches...

    gl!

George Forman grill or sandwich press - they smush everything together and melt it all so the sandwich stays put!

SUCH a great idea! and that would make it so much easier to cut into pieces (for those of us that still do that;)).

we have a sandwich maker (sandwich press) and the sandwiches come out in neat little triangles. i haven't had to cut those into little pieces though, they just bite them.
