I really thought that making baby food was going to be tedious. I thought I would give it a try, though. It was so much easier than I thought!!! I have made peaches, plums and blueberries so far. It barely took any effort at all (and was so much cheaper). For those moms who haven't tried it yet, I just thought I would give you some encouragement. Wholesomebabyfood.com is great!!

Thanks! I've been thinking I need to start mashing 'real' food up for them soon as babyfood is getting $$$$!

Jayne - Did you have to peel the blueberries? It would be so much more affordable, but I never figured out how to fit it in. I guess weekends would be the only time.

Melissa - Have you tried giving them soft table foods yet? I started mine on veggie and fruits in the past couple weeks and DD is doing great, DS is lagging, but ok on some things. I bought veggies with no added salt and fruit in fruit juice. I cut the peaches and pears up and let them self feed as much as they can/will and feed them too. Peas are super easy and mushy too. Green beans I cut up.

I'm cooking sweet potatoes and carrots this weekend for them. I'm also giving them toast with butter and all kinds of cheese (string cheese/mozz seems good and mild) and chicken and turkey (the precooked cutlets are super handy).

Anyway, it's been so much better on my budget! Those jars of food really add up!

I also love making baby food. They love zuchinni, which is some thing I do not think you can buy in a jar.

I loved making baby food for the kids. I saved money, got a lot more and they got nutritious stuff.

One that Abbi loved was tofu with frozen strawberries (or any other fruit) and pureed it till smooth and its like a thin pudding. My mil and fil even loved it.

we are talking about this...I have the time, we have the freezer space. My question for those who do this, what do you store the cubes in once they are frozen? Ziploc freezer bags? Tupperware? And how long are the frozen cubes of yummy goodness good for? TS really needs a subforum for making food!! For tips, recipes and everything that goes with it.

I never let them set for more then a mo but I never made more then what I thought they would eat in a couple of wks.
I stored in freezer bags tho and maybe I just didn't feel completely safe much longer with bags.

I have to say it is super easy! And it really takes almost no time. If you have 15-20 minutes you can do it. There are so many things you can just steam and then blend and freeze. My favorites though are the ones you bake. They taste so good that I end up eating it as well (butternut squash and sweet potatoes). I have made sweet potatoes, avacado, green beans, carrots, bananas, and butternut squash so far. I have some mangoes that I need to do as well. The babies are loving the food!

Freeze them up in ice cube trays covered with saran wrap and when frozen pop them out into zip lock bags. You can store them for up to a month. wholesomebabyfood.com has all the little things you need to know in order to make food. Its a fabulous resource!

I didn't peel the blueberries. I just steamed them and blended, and it really was surprisingly not chunky (just looked like blue applesauce).

I didn't think I could fit it in either, but really it was so much easier/faster than I thought it would be...
