I have had success with everything I made so far (sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans).

I tried to make peas last night and I visited wholesomebaby.com first and checked out their tricks. I used my blender and a strainer and I got nothing. My kids can have stage 2 foods so it doesn't need to be soup but mine had too many chunks!

Anyone else with sucess? Oh and I used frozen as they didn't have fresh in my market!

    TIA

I used frozen and would steam them. I'd then put them in the blender and it worked perfect! Perhaps you're not adding enough water? :unknw:

Same, I steam them (oversteam them in fact, until they are very soft). I mix them in with other stuff, like cooked pears (I know sound gruelling but it tastes alright!), or broccoli, but generally they need either a bit of water or a bit of juice to get pasty enough. I have had the problem that the skin would stay, not dissolve and she would gag on it, but if I properly overcook them, that doesn't happen anymore!

If nothing works I put in a bit of real babyfood (I buy some for outings etc... or emenrgencies) and that does the trick.

My first thought is did you cook them long enough, the first time I steamed frozen peas I ddidn't and they were chunky and the babies hated them. The next time I 'overcooked' them and they blended up much better, they are about the same consistency as the green beans. Sometimes after I thaw them I mix a little formula powder in with them to make them a little creamier or mix 2 cubes of peas with 1 cube of peaches or pears (the babies love that).

I bought a food mill for making baby food, similar to this one (in fact, this one is less expensive than mine - I wish I'd found it when i was looking). It was fabulous for all the vegetables. Instead of just blending them up it actually separates out the fibrous parts. For the peas it separates the inside of the pea and leaves the shells behind (the thin shell on each individual pea). For sweet potatoes I was left with this incredible hairy looking stuff).

Now that I'm not making baby food anymore I still love my food mill - it makes THE BEST mashed potatoes and also fabulously smooth cranberry sauce.

Maybe I didn't cook them enough. I added plenty of water because when it went through the strainer that is all that came through. I will try again today. Thanks

Sorry for asking the really obvious but what did you use to press the puree through the strainer? I use the flat, blunt end of a big wooden spoon. It takes tons of arm muscle, my kids really hated the pea puree, so I never made it again. They love peas as a finger food though, go figure!
