My older twins daughter has a severe diaper rash :( and i have tried several things on her. changing her EVERY time she cries (letting me know that she is hurting from the pee) and i have ruled out three diaper rash creams that made it even worse every time i switched creams. i have finally noticed some progress with baby powder. i am also washing the area and letting it dry completely before i put the powder on. is there anything else that i can use to help. this is day 4 of the diaper rash and their 2 month check up is friday. any suggestions??

    thanks!

Try switching diapers or wipes. DS2 just went through the same thing...it was awful, nothing worked. We were using Luvs, which has a powder scent that he's allergic to. His skin is really sensitive, and as soon as I switched, it cleared up.

You can try Triple Paste, if you haven't already. It could also be something in their diet...have they tried any new foods lately?

let her air out - no diaper as much as possible. also my pediatrician recommends that I mix Desitin, Bacitracin and Lotrimin together (equal parts of each) it really works for us!!! another thing have you switched diaper brands? maybe she is reacting to the diaper? my girls cannot use some brands!!
bless her heart - I hope you can get rid of the rash really soon!!

oh and my girls have reacted badly to baby wipes too - when they have been red I hold their bottoms under the sink and just rinse them off instead of using any kind of wipe. -

Heather! It was you that I learned that from! I do this all the time on a bad rash, and it works! It pretty much covers everything, including yeast.

believe it or not all 5 of my kids are alergic to desitin and a&d ointment. so that is out of the question. i have used the same diapers from day one and that is the white cloud brand. if it was the diapers she would have had a problem from day one. my oldest son was alergic to the cheap diapers and his rash started the day we came home from the hospital. we ended up having to buy him huggies. but huggies are so expensive. 40 daipers cost $18 bucks here and white cloud at wal-mart is only $13 for 80 diapers. if the powder makes it go away along with letting her air out after a thorough cleaning i am keeping the same diapers. we can't afford any other kind right now.

    thanks for your replies!

Seventh Generation is a company that makes diapers without bleaching. They're just as absorbent as regular diapers, but they don't contain any harsh chemicals, bleaching agents, etc. The "gel" in typical diapers (which makes they absorb liquid) can be an irritant. The gel in Seventh Generation diapers is non-toxic. The diapers are more expensive than other kinds, but you might not have to use them in the long term - just until the rash clears up (and then maybe at night when she's wearing a wet diaper longer?). I like them a lot. Check out: http://www.seventhgeneration.com/our_produ...ee_diapers.html

When Destin failed to work here, the pedi told us to give her Aveno Oatmeal baths 3 times a day and use Triple Paste. They both worked in MINUTES. (I only gave 1 Aveno Bath a day BTW - after all, I have twins :)

I had the same problem with my DD not to long ago. I finally tried A&D ointment and that worked great. I also used a washcloth instead of the wipes and let her air out before putting her new diaper on.

Have you switch diapers or wipes lately?

    Hope it clears up soon.

Have you tried Butt Paste yet? I kept reading about it and finally broke down and bought some for my DS... He had a wicked rash this past week. I tried everything and last night I put the butt paste on and this morning it's almost completely cleared up. It's a little pricey, but it sure does work.

Try wiping with plain water and a soft cloth. Wipes can be really harsh on baby skin - alcohol & perfumes...

My magic butt cream: just mix together an unscented zinc cream, vaseline, and lanolin (like you use for sore nipples). It works miracles. And if you get generics of all ingredients, it is super cheap. B)

My pediatrician recommended Maloxx when they had bad diaper rash when the had a stomach bug. Just dab it on with a cotton ball. It really worked. If there are any open areas that are oozy and blistery, try polysporin (not neosporin). Together, those worked like a charm.

Ditto to airing it out as much as possible. When our oldest had a wicked rash I kept him naked as much as I could--washing him off with water instead of wipes, and actually blow drying his bum! Both triple paste and Butt paste have worked really well in the past.
