Just looking to find out if this is normal or if I need to make an appointment-

My boobs seem much more fibrous than they were pre-babies. The texture is thinner and lumpier (for lack of a better descriptor). Several months ago I found a lump in my left boob and went in- they sent me for a mammogram and said that everything was fine, it was just the new shape of my tatas.

NOW, that same lump feels much bigger to me. When I sit in a reclined position or lay down you can almost see the lump. Is this a normal progression? Should I go back in? My mom has had a ton of mammograms over the years and she was very surprised that they did not aspirate the lump- should I ask them to? If it's solid (not like a clogged duct) can they aspirate it?

Is this fear a normal one or do I need to see a shrink, too?! I feel like, since my girls were born, I have an unhealthy fear of sickness/death. Gah!

If it's fibrous, it's dense tissue and there wouldn't be anything to aspirate.

At any rate, I would call and request either another mammogram or an ultrasound to make sure that it is fibrous.

I agree with Bex, I would go back in. My MIL has lumpy breasts and has to have mammograms more often than normal. she says that one thing that will cause it is caffeine.

I also have lumpy boobs, but they've been that way forever. I had my first mammo at 24 because of it. I'd call for piece of mind. GL.

sounds like you might have fibrocystic breast tissue. I have it and so do my mom and sister. It freaks me out doing self exams because it always feels lumpy. So I never do them, which is so wrong I know. My mom has had to go back for follow up testing after several mammograms, but so far it's always turned out normal. My sister just reached the age to have her first mammogram, and she also needed a follow up. Everything was ok with her too. I have heard that caffeine can make it worse, but I also think it's just the way some people are built and there's not a whole lot you can do to change it. One thing I'm unclear on is if the lumps stay in the same places, so you can get used to where they are so you know when to worry when doing self-exams, or if it's always changing. I also think I was told by my doctor that the lumps feel different when they are fibro-cystic vs when it's something to worry about.

    This sounds reassuring.

I've decided to call my doctor to see if we can't skip a mammogram and just do a quick ultrasound while I'm at my annual. I don't want my boobs smooshed again, but I need some peace of mind.

    Thanks, everybody!

I also have lumpy breasts. The first time I freaked out, I think I was 23 or so. I still have that lump(among some others), but it doesn't seem to have gotten bigger. I feel it more and it aches more during different times of the month. I was told that it's probably hormone related. When I went in, they sent me for a mammogram and and u/s and everything showed it was fine. But, it's still weird to feel something in there.

I had the same thing happen this past year. I am 42 and in perimenopause and had at the time been on bcp. Prior to that I was just on oral progesterone since I was estrogen dominant. I believe it was because of the change in my hormones since I was lacking progesterone for so long.

Denise-Are you taking or have had a change in bcp or are on hormone treatment? It could explain the lumps.

I am lumpy too. Have had 2 mammograms and I am only 32. It is always just cycts stuff. It DOES flucuate with my cycle, related I have PCOS. My OB said it was common to have both.

I have very fibrous breast tissue too. I freaked out at 29 about a spot I found and went and had a mammogram and then an appt with a breast surgeon. The mammo was fine and the breast surgeon thought I was nuts. He told me the tissue felt normal and that it was just dense and fibrous, but he did a biopsy "to ease my mind not because there is anything there" we his exact words. Now, I know the spot it is in and know it isn't anything to worry about.

I'm on birth control, but there was a span of 3 years or so where I wasn't on it while ttc and I still had the same problems. I discovered it in my early 20's.
