My girls just got a new baby kitten and of all the names on Earth they could possibly name it..they name it Lucifer. You should see the bug eyes on people when they tell them the kitten's name is Lucifer..then I have to explain the whole reason behind the name. Long story short..they've watched too much Cinderella. I've tried to convince them to try another name, but it hasn't worked. The name has stuck. Poor kitten, I hope he doesn't grow into his name. But on the bright side, it does mean light-bearer, let's just hope it hangs on to that and doesn't turn into the devil himself :)

Oh too funny! There's a Lucifer in Cinderella? I haven't seen that since I was a kid, I don't remember.

You could always call him "Lucy" for short, even thought he's a "he". Maybe that will stick. [IMG]

oh my!!! Yeah, next time maybe MOMMY should name the cat!!! Or maybe you can call it "Furry," like Luci-Fur?

    Hope it's a sweetie!

Yep, that is the "bad guy" cat's name. My kids' favorite scene is the scene where the mice are trying to sneak the pearls past him.

Maybe have them watch Oliver and Company or the Aristocats and see if they change their minds!

 When I read the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about a child named Lucifer and I was thinking, "poor kid!"

That is so funny. We had a neighbor that got a kitten for her little boy and let him name it. His mom's name was Danette and he named his cat after his mom. So they called the cat "little Danette"

Growing up I had a rabbit named Lucifer! :girl_devil: He was not pleasant to try and hold :)

I used to work with a vet and one of my very favorite patients was a doberman named Lucifer He was the sweetest most wonderful dog I have ever come across. He lived to be very old and the day he died was one of the saddest days of my life. When I first met Lucifer I hated his name and wondered why anyone would name such a sweet dog a devilish name - but it grew on me. I did find myself calling him Lucy most of the time when he boarded with us and would be there for usually at least a week at a time. Now when I hear the name Lucifer I think of my sweet wonderful friend that I truly miss, not the devil at all.

    LOVE it [IMG]

Hannah has been begging for a cat and she wants to name it George - the name of our neighbors' cat. I told her maybe we should come up with our own name and she got really upset. We're not actually getting a cat so it really doesn't matter.

I think it's funny and a cute story. I agree with trying for Lucy!

It's a great name for a cat. Conversation starter. My parents had a black cat--perhaps the friendliest cat ever born, he loved everyone and would drape himself all over them and ooze friendliness--named Malcolm Hex, to honor that whole witch's familar thing. This cat was the exact opposite of evil. He would've been the worst familiar ever.

    I love the name!

I had a bunny named Azrael once. That was also the name of the cat in the Smurfs.

I love it! Perhaps it will be the beginning of the rehabilitation of the name Lucifer. (Next up: Judas.)

You could also call him Luke, as that's a nickname for Lucius and other derivatives (including Lucifer) :)

 Too cute! They will one day look back and laugh.

I had a cat that I named Milkshake when I was 8 years old (I really liked chocolate chip milkshakes at the time). I got many laughs and traveled back to many fond childhood memories when I would take him to the vet as an adult and explain where the name came from (he lived until I was almost 25).

Maybe he can be "Lucy" for short? That would be cute, I think.

Thanks for all the suggestions...I tried some of them today and the girls were like, "his name is LUCIFER" and practically screamed the Lucifer part...oh, well, it was worth a shot!

That'll be fun to stand on your doorstep and call  . Great name tho'. Rather imaginative too. Every few weeks I ask the girls what our cat's name is (a street cat who adopted us about a year ago) just to see if I can get something a bit more interesting than our current offerings: they call her 'cat' or, if really pushed to give a name 'sister'. Lucifer is wonderful (wasn't there that character Louis Cipher in 9 1/2 weeks or some other Mickey Rourke film?)
