I just received a call from my ob about my gestational diabetes test, which came back fine. They also checked to make sure I wasn't anemic, which I'm not....and then they counted my platelet levels. I guess normal levels start at 150, and mine was a little low at 129. My ob wasn't to concerned, she just said they will check the levels again with a blood test next week when I see her. Has anyone else had this.....I'm just curious if it is something common or if I should be a little concerned. Thanks!

Funny you should mention that. I'm going to ask my Dr. for a lab order next week. I've been getting some horrible nosebleeds this week and wanted to make sure my platelets and iron levels are ok. Are they making you take anything for it or anything?

My doc's nurse said that my platlets were low too, but wasn't concerned. I don't know how low, I will find out Wednesday- and I will ask my doc!! Seems like with my son it was high, but maybe not. But I would think as much extra blood as we have running around things are bound to get diluted!

They aren't making me take anything for it right now....I don't even know if there is anything you can take. The nurse who I talked to didn't seem to know alot about it.

I read that in a twin pregnancy your blood volume oncreases by 100% or something crazy like that. I was also thinking too that maybe all of the extra blood/fluid is just diluting everything else. It's just one more thing to worry about I guess.

I know what you mean, I feel like I have worried SO much this time around! I was talking to my husband last night and we're pretty sure he'll have a vasectomy soon. I told him that in all honesty, the idea of 5 kids doesn't bother me at all, but the idea of going through another anxious pregnancy - I just don't think I can do it :)

If the doctor doesn't seem concerned, everything is probably fine. But When you do see the doctor, ask them about HELLP syndrome. I am not really sure of the counts, but I did develop this at the end of my pregnancy. Your count is most likely at a level that the doc isn't concerned about this. It is a form of pre-eclampsia, but it's symptoms don't present the same. I didn't have any clue about it until after my delivery. I had and emergency c/s at 37+ weeks.

I actually delivered at 35w4d because of a low platelet count. My platelet count was found in the high 80's when I went in for a blood draw because they thought I was developing signs of pre-eclampsia. We were so confused because they went up and down for days. Finally it got to the point where we were coming up on a weekend and my count had dropped to 75. I received a call from my OB at 2pm on a Friday to head to L&D and I delivered my babies emergency c-section at 4:38pm and 4:40pm. I think your count doesn't seem low enough for alarm right now, but I'd imagine they'll keep an eye on it. I don't believe there is anything that can be done to keep them up or from going down further.

Yes, I had this with my last pregnancy, it is called thrombocytopenia. I think I spelled it right.... My levels were much lower- you seem just fine, and there is a ton a stuff on the internet you can look up about it. It gets bad when you cannot wake up without bruises everywhere.QUOTE(Lynner405 @ Oct 22 2007, 08:36 AM)
