    hi all...
i went in for my 26 week (i will be 27 weeks tomorrow) ultrasound today. they confirmed again that we are having a little boy and girl! very exciting. everything looked wonderful except they stated that the boy has normal/low amniotic fluid. she is 2 lbs 10oz and he is 2lbs 6 oz. they are both above 88% percentile in weight which is good. i was wondering if anyone had dealt with a "low/normal" amniotic fluid around 26-27 weeks. the doctor said that they just want to notate it to keep an eye on it but at this point it's nothing to worry about. but..of course...i worry!! he is vertex (head down) and she is breech at this point. but that can change anytime as they still have plenty of space and time to move.
oh..my cervix is not funneling and measuring above 3 cm in length and my low lying placenta is gone!!! that was wonderful news as i had low lying placenta at 17 weeks and i was in the hospital with contractions about a week and half ago. whew. i just hope that all continues to go well and these little ones stay in there and the little boy has all the amniotic fluid they need to grow big and strong!!! one day at a time!
    take care!

Congrats on your boy & girl! How exciting. At 32 weeks I was told that my boy had low amniotic fluid. So, I was scheduled for NST"s then weekly. It could be that the measurement was off. At least they are watching you and know that there *could* be an issue. :hug99: Take care...

Thanks for the post! What is an NST?

An NST in a Non Stress Test. They began (normally?) around 32 weeks and occur every two weeks as long as thing are progressing okay.

Congrats on your twins, all will go well!

My girl has "low normal" amniotic fluid as well, but it wasn't seen until I was about 32 weeks. My doc told me to drink a lot of water and make sure to monitor kick counts. I get NSTs frequently. Sounds like they are keeping an eye on it which is good. Hopefully the fluid will look better at your next appointment!

I can totally relate to the worrying :) Our fluid levels have varied a lot, from low-normal to excellent, and we go in every 3-4 days for NSTs and Amniotic Fluid Index measurements. One of the nurses said to keep up the water intake, I'm not sure how accurate that is but it kind of makes sense. When do you go back in? It will likely be normal next time :)

Congratulations on the boy/girl confirmation! One thing that sometimes works to level out amniotic fluid issues in those of us who dealt with TTTS was to drink a couple of high protein shakes each day. Your DS's fluid is still in the normal range even if it is a little low so it's not an issue yet but you can help his growth with that extra protein and calories and that will also help his amniotic fluid levels. As others said, lots of water is also a must. :D Congrats again!

I am so glad that I have so many responses. This has put my mind at ease a bit. I go into to see the doctor next week for the glucose test and an office visit but I don't know about the ultrasound. I am going to call right now and see when they plan to schedule the next one! Or a NST test. I have had a heck of time getting this OBGYN practice to schedule ultrasounds. I had one at 17 weeks and then didn't have another one until my 26/27 week the other day. I think that is a long time between ultrasounds. I will keep you updated!

Update..I called the OBGYN office and found out that I have another Level II ultrasound on Feb 4th. So that is about a week and half away. I will talk with the doctor when I go in next Tuesday to see if that is too long to wait to check on the fluid.

    Hi all,
I went in today for another ultrasound and the boy's fluid is still low. I asked if it was "low normal" and she said, "well..it's low..and we need to monitor it". The little girl has all kind of fluid. I am really worried. I just want to make it to 34 weeks.! I mean..the more weeks the better..I am at 28 weeks 4 days now. I did see the little boy yawn. Oh my gosh..it was THE cutest thing in the world. I just want them to be okay. I can't even THINK about anything happening to either of them. I couldn't take that. So..anyway..I am going to try to stay positive, drink plenty of fluid even though the doctor said that it doesn't make that make a difference in the amount of amniotic fluid..it's just the way that they are. I know that it is KEY to keep preterm labor at bay and so many other good things. I just hope and pray that it stays at this level or it gets better and these little ones can stay in place for at LEAST 5 more weeks.
Send positive vibes my way and any success stories you have about low amniotic fluid. I need all the positive thinking I can get right now!!!
    Thanks!!

Both of my boys had fluctuating fluids. From week 19-22, Ryan had extremely low fluid. He was actually stuck to the uterine wall and we didn't think he was going to make it. We were monitored weekly and at 22 weeks it went into the "low" range. By then end (33wks) his fluid was abnormally high (over 9cm). His water broke first. It's wonderful that they are willing to keep such a close eye on it. Keep us updated! :hug99:

Thanks for the response. Did your doctor tell you to do anything with your diet to improve the amount of amniotic fluid? Or did the doctor give you any ideas why it was so low and then got back to normal and above normal? Any info would help. Thanks again!!!

I was told I had low amniotic fluid in one sac too and they "prescribed" the swimming pool. If you can manage it, you should go tool around in the swimming pool for about 45 min. a day. I didn't swim laps, it was supposed to be relaxing and just floating around. I would sit on a kick board and talk to the lifeguards (I was at the END of pregnancy) or just toodle back and forth. It was WONDERFUL to be weightless for a while too!! :love0028:

It's good to hear your update, I'm sorry his fluid is still on the low side. What does the doctor say is the plan of action? Are they growing on track? My perinatologist explained that the reason they are doing amniotic fluid indexes and nonstress tests twice a week for me is to detect any early signs of distress. Are they going to start NSTs for you? I spent several weeks stressed over the growth of my baby girl, and can completely relate to how stressed you must feel. You just want them to be perfectly happy and healthy in there. Is it an OB or peri you're seeing? Have you thought of getting another opinion? I really like having the opportunity to talk to both my OB and peri, or another peri in the group.

Thanks for the response! Their plan of action is to watch me weekly via ultrasound. No talk of stress tests. They didn't tell me to monitor the movement of him. So..maybe it isn't that bad?!? You know..I have to ask the right questions. Like..on a level of 1-10..how bad is it? Or something that I can relate to. Anyway...I can feel him move SO much due to the low fluid that I know that he is very active. That makes me feel a bit better. You hit it right on the head when you said, "You just want them to be perfectly happy and healthy in there. ". So true. I have made it this far and I just want it to be okay. I am seeing an OB but the doctors that read the ultrasound deal with twins pregnancies and high risk pregnancies. They come out to the suburbs from a big hospital in Boston as they are affiliated with the OBGYN I go to. It's really nice to have them there and not have to travel into the city all the time. So..the tech reads the ultrasound and then the doctor comes in and reads it again to make a decision on what to do next. I will see how next Monday's checkup US goes and I may get another opinion to see if they would take the same course of action. I think that is a good idea. Oh..they are going to check the growth next week. It was only a week since the last ultrasound so they wanted to wait 2 weeks to check growth. I suppose that will say a lot of how he is doing. Oh gosh..I just want everything to be okay. Thanks again!!

    Hi all!!
I wanted to give you an update. I went to have another ultrasound today and all is well!!! The doctor looked closely at the little boy and the amniotic fluid. It's still a bit low but the doctor said there is plenty of it there for him to be okay!!!! So HAPPY! They are still going to do weekly checks from this point forward which makes me feel better. The little girl is wonderful. She flipped again so now she is breech  She is going to keep me on my toes..I can tell! They estimated that both twins are 3 or 3 and half pounds. That's about a pound or so in 2 weeks. I am 30 weeks this Thursday. I can't believe that time has passed so quickly. I am definitely feeling the weight on my back and side and well..just about everywhere. But, it's all worth it if the little ones are doing good. That's all it's about. I hope that everyone else is doing wonderful and hanging in there through all this. It's never a dull moment, that is for sure. Take care!!

Glad everything is starting to look better. That must be such a relief. Keep up the good work. You still have time for your little girl to flip a few more times. Not much longer now.
