Low fluid

At my last ultrasound Baby A was showing low fluid - the largest pocket was 2.4 x 2.4 cm.

Baby B's largest pocket of fluid was 4.2 x 4.1 cm

Any amount less than 5 cm is considered low. So aren't they both low????

My OB said it's a slight cause for concern on Baby A since hers is low in relation to Baby B. My ultrasound tomorrow will be repeated and he said it's difficult to interpret fluid and Baby A could of been in an awkward position for accurate measurements etc.

So does anyone know how to interpret my results - is this fluid really low or lower than Baby B. I trust my doctor, but I would love to hear about your experiences.

I'm on hospital bedrest and looking forward to leaving this hospital soon so I'd love your opinions.

We learned a lot about TTTS (only chance if one placenta) and most of it dealt with fluid levels. For us, the concern was for one baby to have fluid less than 2cm and the other baby to have more than 8. Since we thought we were at risk, I followed my fluid levels extremely closely. They fluctuated every week and a few times I had to come in the next day since the size also varies by u/s machine. I wouldn't be too concerned over such a small difference. How far along are you? Do you know how many placentas?

    Congratulations on your babies!!!!

My babies also had 2 placentas and at 30 weeks my baby A had low fluid - they also told me that less than 2cm was danger. they monitored us very closely - twice a week at that point and put me on bedrest - and told me to drink LOTS of water and Boost. - we made it to 38 weeks and had no problems from the low fluid!

How interesting. When I was told baby B´s fluid was "borderline", I asked the radiologist/obgyn if I should drink more water. He told me that had nothing to do with it. I was surprised by that. Did your ob/gyn tell you that drinking water helps the amniotic fluid increase? I thought it did too.

My twins' fluid was always just above 2. I don't think we found anything greater than 4. For a while, my smaller baby had no fluid (we were also dealing with TTTS) - but then, as long as they maximum vertical pocket was over 2, i didn't worry.
