    Hi everyone,

At my last appointment the OB prescribed me low dose aspirin (100mg) in an attempt to prevent pre-eclampsia. This is my first pregnancy so this decision was based on my mother being hospitalised with me with very bad pre-eclampsia. I guess I just hate the thought of taking anything while pregnant and I'd never heard of this treatment before so I'm wondering if this has been recommended to anyone else?

    :thanks:

I had preclampsia with my first pregnancy so during my second I was put on low dose aspirin, vitamin E, and vitamin C. I didn't have any issues with my second pregnancy and I had some bleeding this time so they didn't have me repeat the aspirin.

I have not heard that for Pre-E. Well let me take that back.. I think that it could help with developing high blood pressure which I guess is a symptom of Pre-E.

That being said I was on baby asprin since i had had 3 miscarriages previously, and started on it at 5 weeks and then was continued on it after we found out that they were twins. I did develop pre-eclampsia tho at 35wks.

I was on low dose asprin with my 1st pregnancy due to my mother also having pre-e very badly. She gained 100 lbs with me and spent a month in the hospital. I had hypertension all the way through my pregnancy (and before I got pregnant for that matter) so they went ahead and put me on it... hoping to prevent the same thing. I never did get pre-e.

I began this pregnancy on it as well. So far no problems. Blood pressure is good too... better than witmy daughter so far. I also am not having any swelling, which is great....hoping things continue on the same track.

    10 weeks and counting down!

Thanks so much everyone. It's so helpful to hear what others are going/have been through.

Due to my history of pre-e and HELLP I take low dose aspirin when TTC and throughout my pregnancies. I also take a blood thinner injection twice daily because of a clotting disorder.

Clinically it won't really prevent pre-e itself, but it does thin the blood to drastically lower the possibility of a stroke brought on by high BP which is in turn brought on by pre-e. Good luck to you!
