When do babies usually get really into their loveys? Mine are pretty good at self-soothing already, but I'm looking forward to having yet another trick up my sleeve... ;)

My girls only started to become attached to loveys (Meara and her little froggy, Ana and her green blankey) in the last 3 weeks. Right around the time they became better able to grab things. Its so neat to watch them actually have a preference. Why the green blankey when the yellow is practically the same? Why the froggy and not the parrot?! I don't know, but the girls sure do! -Leighann

ETA: I just realized that in my ticker pix, Ana has her blankey over her and Meara has the frog resting on her face!

I think it was around when Brian was a year old that he really began preferring his "blue blankie" over anything else. He began having a "yarn-fetish" at an early age, rubbing his face all over the loose yarn in my mom's sewing bag, screaming in delight whenever we would walk down the yarn aisle at wal-mart, etc. however, his blue blankie must be with him during nap and bedtime. He has several other blankies made of the same yarn, but they don't compare to ol' blue.

My older DD started sleeping with a soft stuffed doll around 6 months, when she was able to roll to one side and hug it for naps and nighttime.

But, it wasn't until just over a year -- maybe closer to 15 months -- that she picked two items as her lovies, a Gund bear comfy cozy that she named "Boo" and a Gund stuffed dog that she calls "Puppy" -- known collectively in our house as "BooPuppy."

She sucks her thumb and has always been good at self-soothing, but, God FORBID anything ever happen to BooPuppy -- we have three sets that we rotate on the sly, so we can wash them. :D I don't see the obsession ending anytime soon! And, she'll be 4 in January.

I think around one year of age is the norm to get really attached to something....

Mine were around 8 months when I would see them grab their individual lovey and then put their thumb in their mouths. So cute!!

My DD has a favorite 'Bunnies by the Bay' blanket/bunny thingy that she loves, has since 4 mos. DS is a belly sleeper and a finger lover, he doesn't have anything as of yet.

Around 9-10 mos for DD1 who STILL to this day sleeps with green-and-white blankies. She doesn't take them to friends' houses, but she did take them to summer camp. I can't believe these things are still around - the silky edging has long since worn off.
