Can someone give me some insight to the philosophy behind this parenting technique? As well as any recommendations on what materials to start with. Looking at their website and there are a lot of items that seems to be geared toward older children.
    TIA!

Use the love and logic. I LOVE IT!!!!! Once you get the idea down, you can customize it for you and your kids. I can't not say enough good things about it. It takes frustration and anger totally out of the picture. there is no build up to the melt down. Every where I go (grocery store, out to eat, park) I am told how well behaved my kids are. Strangers are blown away with how well they listen. And they are pretty good at home too lol! But it is ONLY because of this book. It's about being consistant, no matter what, and natural consiquences (did I spell that right lol). The book says it is harder on the parent then the kids, and they are right. BUt it only takes once or twice and the "problem" is solved. Good luck

If im understanding you right, both books are by the same authers and I have read both. Again, I think you get the concept but then make it work for your family. I follow pretty closly to the ideas, but every child is unique. Ella needs things stricter and very black and white. Milo just needs little nudges. Does that makes since?

I have the early child hood one on my shelf right now. One on the other things that I really like about these books is that it's not just about having well behaived kids. its About knowing that we are raising adults. We can give them the tools to make good choices, to be confident, to be honest now for when they are older. By the time a child is 5 all the ground work for thier morals and ethics is layed out.

I'm just getting into the books right now. I just got done with Parenting with Love and Logic and the one for birth through age 6. I've got a few more lined up to read. I'm 1/2 way through the one that describes the many different situations that parents face with their kids and then gives you ways to handle it/respond. I think it's called When kids leave you speechless. I'm really excited to try to incoporate Love and Logic more b/c I usually just blow up instead of responding like I should. But, the little bit that I've started to use (i.e. the "uh oh song") have really shown some improvements in behavior around here. I'm just worried I've started too late. I wish I would have had this system down when all the kids were younger. My oldest is almost 6.5 yrs. old and the twins will be 4 in Sept.
