Loud noises scaring them?

Just curious if anyone else has had the issue of loud noises scaring their kids. It's been going on for awhile now, so it is not as if something has triggered this recently. But the garbage truck this morning coming down the street about made them come un-done! It's worse when we are outside, but we were even inside today - and they both came running for me with looks of terror on their faces. Same for when the garage door goes up or when we hear dogs barking (even our own little dog!) They settle down quickly afterward the event, and I always tell them what it is - but it hasn't improved any. Any thoughts or ideas? I didn't know if a lot of kids did this, or if we needed to work on it. Thank you!!

My girls and son are all so loud, I dont' think they ever hear any loud noises!

Now, my son came sneaking into my room at 5am this morning, he jumped about a foot off the bed when my alarm went off, but that's pretty much the only reaction to noise I've seen.

Mine did up until middle of last summer. they wre two plus then. It was really difficult for awhile. Basically just when we were outside. It really sucked for a while. We had a neighbor move in down the street w/a motorcycle that seemed to rev it up as he went by and we had the planes practicing for an air show fly over the house for a week of so. Both these noises envoked blood curdling screams. I tried to warn them before it happened, so they were not surprised. Then I think they just grew out of it. Good luck.

Yes, Bea is scared of every loud noise now. She goes "scary!" and comes running and hugs my leg about every loud noise. I think she's exaggerating a bit.

we also had a sudden onset of fear of loud noises - motorcycles, boats, horns, etc.

we just taught them how to cope with the noise. "Cover your ears" seemed to calm them down, to have a way to cope.

Now they run around yelling at the top of their lungs (pretending to be something loud) then say "cover ears"

YES! But only with one them... my Zack is scared of anything loud. Thunder really sets him off... especially if it is storming at night. He pulls the blanket over his head and screams, I feel so bad for him!!

Mine are going through this right now. It hasn't always been like this, so I am assuming it's a phase. If DS screams, DD scurries over to me and hugs me tight. If the dog barks, they both cry. If another child cries/screams, DD cries.

    I hope it ends soon.
