Annelise has tons of ear wax in her outer ears. It's been going on for quite a while. I've been having to clean her ears with a Q-Tip (outer part only, not in the canal). Could this indicate an infection? She doesn't seem unhappy. We're going to see the Ped on Mon. about her eating/weight gain issues anyway, but was wondering if the excessive wax could indicate a problem.

I was told if they grab their ear along then that is a sure sign of an ear infection.

I remember a time in the first year, when my daughters suddenly had earwax. We were still seeing the pedi monthly at that point (we did the whole first year) so I mentioned it to him. He checked her out and she was fine. He told me they probably only just started producing ear wax, so it seemed like a lot to me because before that they hadn't had any. And that it would probably normalize so that I didn't need to clean it so often. And it did.
Since you are seeing the pedi anyway, ask him about it. But if she doesn't have any other signs of an infection don't worry about it.

I wouldn't be concerned. My girls have gobs of ear wax too that I cleanout with a swab. I told the pedi about it and she was not concerned.

I just started noticing Molly and Owen's ear wax. Yuck! Now I'm obsessed with checking their ears :)

I took DD to dr bc of ear pulling and it was just wax in her ear. I asked if we shoudl do anything and she said it would clear out on its own. I also clean outer ear with swab after every bath. I guess it is normal.

I have to do the same thing to mine. I am totally paranoid about ear wax (which sounds strange and probably is)...and this is probably TMI but I've actually produced so much of it, even as a child, that I have to have the doctor clean it. It is so gross. So I am paranoid about that for the babies!

[SIZE=12pt]My Michael is a VERY WAXY guy. He has had a LOT of ear wax for over a year now. Mikayla has practically nothing. The doctor said Michael was OK and that he just inherited his daddy's very waxy ears. I have found that it has been better the last month or so. Instead of cleaning out his outer ear everyday, I go every 3 days with him now.

    Good luck
