This is the first year we 'did' the whole Easter bunny thing. Last year my mom made them baskets, which were actually sand buckets for the beach, but DH and I didn't do anything.

This year the girls were into it so we decorated eggs (which nearly thru my over the edge yesterday- oh the mess!), talked about bunnies, etc etc. This morning DH hid the baskets outside because "Duh! That bunny can't get into our house!" (I love my husband's logic), and the girls had a blast seaching for them.

Then when we got back inside I suggested we call the easter bunny and thank him! So DH went into the other room and I called his cell and even though he had a slightly scottish accent (I don't know why!), Meara said in the most 12-year-old-exasperated tone of tone "Oh thats Daddy." and handed the phone back to me. Oh well, we tried.

We "saw" the Easter Bunny at the lake so when we got home. Mommy "found" the things the EB had snuck into the bus.

LOL! Your DH must have been like, dude, I was Scottish and everything.

When we took the kids to see the Easter Bunny at the mall this year, Nadia said, "That must be a person in a costume who can't talk, huh?" I just nodded and smiled, and hope that we can hang onto Santa for another year at least!

We delayed the egg hunt until the grandparents could arrive and I basically convinced them that they'd gotten up too early and scared off the bunny! (they get up before the sun...) After breakfast, I had DH take them down to the hot tub out back while I hid the eggs and baskets out front. After their grandparents arrived, I took them upstairs into their closet to choose socks and shoes (dragged it out a little pulling down some baby toys from the shelf and talking about when they were little) while grandpa hid a couple of things and DH got the camcorder ready. Then, DH shouted to come quick, he thinks he might have seen the bunny! He tells them he saw a flash of white near the swings and we should go see if the bunny dropped anything. Worked great! (and yes, our swingset is in the front yard but you'd have to see where we live to understand why and how that's not a problem)

We're writing a thank you note together to put in the bag of plastic egg shells that will be set out on the porch before bed so the bunny can collect them for next year.

    That's really funny. :D

I've always been sort of ambivalent about Santa and the Easter bunny -- I think it's sweet when kids believe, but when I get asked point-blank, I just can't lie to them. Amy and Sarah never even heard of the Eastern bunny till the day before Easter this year, but last night Amy said something about the Easter bunny coming to our house, and then she said, "Mommy, was dat a grownup in a costume?" I said, "Was what a grownup in a costume?" and she said, "The Easter bunny."

I couldn't bring myself to tell her the Easter bunny was real. But I also didn't want her thinking there was a grownup in a costume running around our house in the middle of the night. So I said, "Sometimes Mommy and Daddy do the Easter bunny's work if the bunny is too busy." So, their stage of believing in the Easter bunny lasted about 48 hours. :D
