I feel like I cannot go anywhere because they are constantly sick. I put them in the nursery at church or the gym they wind up getting some sort of gross cold or virus every single time. It is really a bummer because I have chosen to be a SAHM to take care of them and I love that, but it is nice to get out a couple of times a week and socialize with other women. It seems like every single time I do poof they are sick and we are stuck at home for 2 weeks until they are both better, then I get the courage to brave the open world and the vicious cycle begins all over again. I sometimes feel very very isolated and I am beginning to feel very discouraged because I thought that once they turned 1yr and walking it would be better but this fall is beginning to look very very familiar from last fall/winter.

Does anyone have this problem with their twins or maybe I am the only one that their children pick up every little bug. I guess it is also hard because i personally do not get sick very often and thought for sure they would take after me and my immune system :)

What do you do when they are sick with a little cold (no temp, but green snot and a little cough) do you keep them at home or do you just proceed with life and your plans and take them out around other kids??
Just kinda venting or looking for some words of encouragement from other mommas out there :)

My girls and I were sick all summer. One virus after another. I rarely got sick prior to having kids, but I re-lived almost all of my childhood illnesses between June and August this year, including hand, foot & mouth disease. We haven't had chicken pox yet. Thank god for that vaccine. My girls started daycare in June, just before they turned 1 year old, and that is certainly the source of the viruses. They were not sick even one time prior to that because they were at home with nannies and around no other children. Having runny noses has become so common that it just seems normal. If we stayed home for two weeks everytime they get the sniffles, we'd never go anywhere, and we'd starve to death. So I take them out unless they have a fever or have had a fever in the prior couple of days. My pediatrician assured me that it's all normal. Your kids are going to get sick when they begin to socialize with groups of other children. It's simply unavoidable. If they first begin to socialize with groups of other kids at age one, whether it's in daycare or mom's day out or just a playgroup, then they're going to get sick like this at age one. If they first begin socializing with groups of other kids when they start school at age 4 or 5, then they're going to get sick like this at age 4 or 5.

With green snot and a cough, I usually keep them home for a day or two until it starts looking a little better. It is true that the children are going to be more likely to catch an illness being around other children, so your two sound perfectly normal. My DD caught roseola from the pediatrician's office last year.

Unless they were throwing up or having diarrhea, I only stayed home if they were so sick that they had no energy or if they were noticeably coughing up a lung or something. They had snotty noses and/or mild coughs almost constantly for about a year during the young toddler phase. I just generally followed our daycare's rule (which that kids don't stay home for coughs or colds unless they're "unable to participate in normal activities or need extra care") and applied that to things like the library too.

ETA: It's actually worse when they are walking, because they can get everywhere and touch everything, and all those germs go straight into their mouths. Mine were hardly ever sick (except for a tiny little case of RSV :hush: ) until they became mobile.

That sounds normal to me. My kids were pretty healthy during the FY (they had the flu and a couple of colds). We have had a few colds during the SY. One of them lasted 3 weeks (basically 3 weeks of really runny noses). They usually seem to get sick from the church nursery. I still take them though because I think it's important for us to go to church as a family. We have also started to go to story time at the library once a week so we'll see if they get sick from there too.

Mine never got sick until 9 months old, now they get a cold at least once a month if not more. They get into EVERYTHING and all the germs go straight into their mouth because they're always chewing on their hands. My doctor says it's good to build up their little immune systems and that the kids who get sick all the time when they're toddlers hardly ever get sick when they're older. Fingers crossed that's true!

Normal. Until they have gotten sick and fought things off a bit, their immune system will not be as strong.

Ours were in daycare since 3 months old and have been sick almost CONSTANTLY until the last couple months (now they're almost 2). Will an illness sick enough to keep them home at least once a month.

Their Dr. says it is normal for them to get sick about 8 times a year the 1st year or two in daycare or school (and she's not including minor colds). It is normal for kids in daycare or school to be sick almost constantly when starting daycare or school for a year or two.

Unfortunately, this is normal, and is likely only to get better after they've already been exposed/been sick a bit.

Since yours are at home and not exposed all them time, they're going to catch things very easily until they've fought off a bunch of illnesses.

I can relate! I feels like my boys are ALWAYS sick. It surprises me too because DH and I have very healthy immune systems, I'm a SAHM, they were BFed until recently, and they were healthy at birth. Our kids aren't even in nursery yet, but get sick almost every week just from touching the pews, other kids, toys, ect. I have never been a germ phob, but recently I have gotten so tired of sick kids I sanitize everything! I thought people don't get sick in the summer? The past month has gotten better though. I'm not looking forward to cold/flu season.

The one bright spot is they will hopefully have good immune systems after getting over all this stuff. :pardon:

I feel ya and mine arent even in daycare at all. It seems to come and go and DS is always getting the brunt of it. I dont keep them at home unless its really snotty and they are very uncomfortable or they are running a fever and are obviously sick and just want to be cuddled. We stay going. I have always been staying going even sick so these 2 will be too when its just a cold. Hopefully their immune system will get stronger and fight off these colds easily
