Loose BMs

I've recently switched my girls off of cow milk to a lactose free milk. They were having diarrhea issues with the regular milk. Now they are still having loose BMs, I've changed 6 messy diapers today (3 a piece). I'm not sure if its something to do with the new milk or if their systems are trying to regulate. Has anyone else gone through this? I need some advice, not sure if I should switch again or just wait it out.

I would talk to your Pedi. Maybe it's not the lactose causing the loose stools?

Is there a bug going around? My boys caught a bug at daycare and their only symptom was loose BM's for almost a month

A child with a milk allergy has the same symptoms that anyone has with an allergy sneezing, skin rash, runny eyes and nose, wheezing or diarrhea. Many children experience a secondary lactose in tolerance. This means that they temporarily lose the ability to digest the lactose, although they regain it later on.

But since this is still occuring, maybe it isn't the milk? Could it be some sort of minor bug going around? My guys have had loose stools for the last week, and up to 5 a piece a day!

Trish, we are having the same problem here. If I am strict about the bananas, they do ok though. They are both still getting cereal in their milk because of reflux, they are still spitting up off and on. So I have also been putting a bit of the rice cereal with bananas in it. We are on soy milk, but the ped told me yesterday to try the Lactaid because it is actually the easiest to digest. I was hoping that it would end the spit-up, but since it's so easy to digest...maybe it will make the diarrhea worse...hmmmmmm.

I really don't think they got a bug. I'm almost positive that the girls are lactose intolerant. I had them on soy formula from the time they were born. When I switched to milk I switch to cows milk hoping thing were better and they grew out of being lactose intolerant. At first it went good, but they would only drink 8-10 oz a day. I was nervous they weren't getting enough milk so I bumped them up 16 oz and immediately after i started giving them more they started with diarrhea, it was very watery. Now that i have then switch to a lactose free their BMs are harder but they're still loose and more frequent then normal. Thats why I'm sure if their bodies are trying to regulate from the switch or not. Maybe I'll start giving more bananas and watch them over the next couple days and see if it gets any better. I feel so bad Leighanna is getting over her first diaper rash from all the BMs :(

My DH ia also lactose intolerant, this is were I believe th girls got it from. He gets really bad diarrhea when he drinks milk and has from the time he was a baby. I had a good feeling the girls would be this way before they were born.

Then there may be nothing you can do... since they were on Soy formula, can't you do Silk soy or something like that? I hope you gets things all figured out soon. :hug99:

Is it just milk they are allergic to, or is it everything containing milk, such as foods... etc?

Its just milk, they can eat yogurt, cheese and cottage cheese with no problem. Thankfully :)

I was hoping that I didn't have to go to soy. Theres so much conterversy about how healthy soy is. But if I thats all they can drink I'll have to choice.
