On March 1st I will have a hysteroscopy so that my doctor can try to scrape off as much of a fibroid as he can. It's not very big, but it is distorting the shape of my uterus. He doesn't want to proceed with a FET until it is taken care off. I've read all about hysteroscopies (diagnostic and surgical) and they don't seem too bad. I was hoping some of you could share your experiences. How bad was the pain afterwards and how much did you bleed? I have 4 year old twin boys to try to take care of after this.

    Thank you for sharing!

Hi Cindy, I had one a few years ago.

My experience was fine except for one piece.
I had a med student do mine, I went to a teaching hospital, I was fine with her doing this. But she made a very big mistake; once the catheter was in my uterus, instead of pushing the dye out of the syringe, she pulled back on it, causing.a.suction. it made me pass out.
I'm sure this was a very rare occurance.

Beside that, although not comfortable, certainly for me, it was tolerable. IBprofin worked fine, and I was a bit sore for a couple of hours, but went.back to work and did fine.

I've had friends who had no pain whatsoever, I really think it depends on the person.

Good luck, I hope everything resolves quickly so you can have your FET! Keep us posted_!

Thank you for your reply! Are you sure you are talking about a hysteroscopy? It sounds more like the HSG I had a while back. For my procedure, I will be asleep while he uses a scope to look into my uterus and then scrape off the fibroid. I don't think there is dye involved. But then again, I'm not 100% sure.

I had a D&C with a hysteroscopy a few years back. I was asleep for the actual procedure, spent a few hours in recovery afterward, and was then sent home. For me, I had some very minor cramping & bleeding, not more than a normal period. I was a bit tired & felt yucky for a day or so from the anaesthesia. Nothing horrible. Good luck to you!

I've had two, but one was done with laparoscopy. The one that was just the hysteroscopy was for resection of uterine septum only (the second was also for this but w lap to do some other stuff and see from the other side while resecting).

The procedure alone is not bad. I did have to dilate the cervix prior to the procedure and that caused some cramping the night before. They gave me something for that as soon as I had my IV in. I was groggy from the anesthesia and had quite a bit of nausea, but mainly just cramping after for a few days. If I had kids I would have needed help for at least a day to recover.

Good luck! I hope it goes well for you.

Dilating me...I guess that is what the Cytotec prescription is for. Thanks for the warning about cramping. I am having it done on a Thursday and my boys don't have school the next day. I hope that will make recovery easier. No place to go.
