    Ladies,

I can hardly believe that I am posting here. I joined Twinstuff in 2003 when one of my best girlfriends learned she was having identical twins. I became very interested in her pregnancy and wanted to learn as much as I could (I've never posted)! Then, I got hooked on this site. Fast forward 6 years and I still visit, but not as frequently.

My DH and I started TTC in Sept. 2007. By Feb. 2008 we learned we had some issues. We did 7 failed IUIs before moving on to IVF in Apr. 2009. I am now pregnant and at 5w2d they saw one gestational sac and yolk sac (we transferred two embryos). At 6w6d u/s they saw two babies in the one sac. It appears that one of our embryos split.

Today I am 7w3d. So, I'm very early. I am still in shock that I am pregnant much less with identical twins! I worry about many things that may go wrong. I'd appreciate hearing from ladies in similar boats about how your pregnancies are progressing. Is there anyone here who did IVF and ended up with identicals?

It feels so strange to actually post here. I am starting to think I sort of willed this to happen by coming here over so many years :)

Congrats on the twins. I have ID boys, but not through fertility treatments. Glad to see you have a beautiful reason to finally post :D

    Welcome and congrats!

Hi! Like Becky said, I did IVF. Two embryos...one took and split and the other did not take.

I did not know they were ID until they were two years old. My boys were an early split so they each had their own sack and own placenta.

How did you find out they were ID at two?

I am pregnant with fraternal twins but also ttc for a very long time. I got pregnant through iui. I understand the shock of ttc for so long then finally getting pregnant, then to be blessed with twins! Yes you are early and many things could go wrong, but trust me, I had low progesterone, MTHFR (which forces me to have to take blood thinner injections throughout my pregnancy along with a baby asprin and much xtra folic acid), plus suffered a miscarriage @ 14weeks, so with all I went thru and then some, there is much hope...lol I still worry and always will. Its normal, but the chances are, you will have a successful pregnancy!! good luck & congrats again!! Think positive, all will be fine.

How did you find out they were ID at two?

That is when I decided to do a DNA test. Everyone I would see at the stores and everyone here on ts told me they were ID so after I could not stop going back and forth on it with DH, we decided to test them.

Thanks, everybody, for your good wishes. It's nice to know there are others out there in similar situations. I see my ob/gyn next week at 8w6d. I am not sure whether she'll recommend that I see a perinatologist. For those of you that have faced this decision, what would you recommend?

First, congratulations on the ID twins. Twins are sooo special! My girls are ID and there are just a few more "concerns" you face with monochorionic twins, so it would probably be best to see a perinatologist in addition to your OB, depending upon his/her experience with twins and the level of equipment they have in their office.

Best wishes for an uneventful pregnancy and wonderful delivery!

I don't have an option as the closest peri is 3 hours away. So, its an OB for general care unless the babes show signs of needing more monitoring. Then I will have to either move to the city and live with my parents or face a 3hr drive each way for peri appts. I'm hoping the OB here is able to monitor well enough - I meet her for the first time next week. Add to that if the babes ARE growing fine, then its likely not an issue.

    Congrats! How cool is that!?

I have identical twin boys from a 5 day transfer of two. One split and I had mono di boys. You WILL want to see a Peri if you can cuz it's considered high risk to be carrying mono di babes.

    Good luck and welcome!

Congratulations!! I am also expecting identical twins through IVF. I remember the 1st ultrasound took forever because the tech was looking for a third baby LOL. I understand your worries. I think I a am on the verge of paranoia every other day. I am seeing an ob/gyn who has a lot of experience with twins. My twins share the same placenta but so far so good I am 20 weeks pregnant

Wow-- so there are some of you with IDs from IVF. Cool! I am 7w5d today and am just so worried. I don't want to wish this happy time away, but these early weeks are tough. I really don't feel pregnant which surprises me. Anyone else not feel pregnant, even with twins? I do have a few symptoms like fatigue, breast tenderness, and thirst, but nothing that screams "You're Pregnant!" My next u/s is next Friday and I wish it was tomorrow. When do you ladies think I'll be able to breath a little easier? After the u/s at 8w6d? Thanks again.

I felt so "unpregnant" in the first few weeks that I thought that there would be nothing to see on my first ultrasound (I did IVF too). I was shocked to hear that there were two babies, since the last pregnancy I carried I was SO sick, with a singleton. I started to breathe easier once I had stopped the IVF meds and had an ultrasound a few days later.

I hate to tell you SC but I'm still waiting to breath that sigh of relief. Reading all the great stories on this website really helps. I try to go from milestone to milestone. After we saw the heartbeats I couldn't wait to stop the shots. Then I was really nervous about getting the big ultrasound done......Now I'm waiting to get to the 24 week mark. This is my 1st pregnancy so it is really hard not to worry but I'm trying to enjoy every minute of it.

Congrats to you and your hubby. Being pg with twins can be nervewracking especially after having treatments to achieve a pregnancy. We tried for 5 yrs and did IVF and it was scary and exciting at the same time.

I would recommend seeing the specialist as well. I didn't like that my regular OB said she wouldn't treat me any different than a regular pregnancy but thought I was high risk. I switched to a specialist and was so happy that I did. They kept track of me regularly and that made me feel at ease.

As far as feeling pregnant. I didn't feel pregnant until I felt them moving, despite showing at 8 weeks I still couldn't believe it. I would just take it a step at a time and tried talking to the babies and taking really good care of myself. When people asked I would just relish in the moment and enjoyed it as much as possible. It is tough to put a smile on all the time but the more you do the easier it will get.

Good luck and look forward to getting to know you more!

Congrats on the pregnancy! You will want to see a peri. We'll be here to answer all the questions you have in between the OB and Peri appointments! :)
