I'm having cervical length checks every other week and at 30 weeks I'm measuring 30-31 cm. I'm noticing a lot of you have lengths of 3-4 cm. Is it normal to have such a long cervix?

I am not too well versed in Cervical lengths, but I would say that if your is Long that is great! I can't imagine that there would be anything bad about that.

Are you sure you don't mean mm?

A vaginal scan is the best way to measure your cervix because it can be seen much more clearly this way. The cervix looks like a tube on the scan, between 3 and 5 cms in length, with one end at the top of the vagina (the external os) and the other end inside the womb (the internal os). It is the internal os that can begin to open first and this will look like a V shape on your scan. As the os opens further it becomes U shaped. This is called funnelling. If the closed part of the cervix measures less than 2.5 cms, a stitch will be put in to stop the cervix opening further. This will be done in hospital under a general anaesthetic.

What is a normal cervical length in pregnancy?
At 20 weeks gestation the average cervical length is 40mm
At 34 weeks gestation the average cervical length is 34 mm

This the information I am finding when I google this :)

BTW Mine is 4 cm at almost 18 weeks.

It must be mm. When they measure mine it comes up as mm on the screen.

Ohh, that explains it. I was wondering if that was your fundal height instead of cervical length! but mm makes more sense!

30mm is very good, don't worry.

I have a short cervix (it was 18mm at 27 weeks), and trust me they let you know if the measurement is worrisome! But 30 is just fine. (Which translates to 3 centimeters).

If you're at 3 cm then you are pretty much right on target. I've had a long cervix for most of my pregnancy.

    18 Weeks - 5cm
    20 Weeks - 5cm
    22 Weeks - 5cm
    24 wks - 5cm
    26 wks - 4cm
    28 wks - 3.8cm
    29 wks - 4.7 cm
    31 wks - 3.5 cm
    32 wks - approx. 4cm

Mine seems to go back and forth. Baby A is breech (which I think has really been helping my cervix) and Baby B has been transverse. The Doc says there is a nice pocket between the babies and the cervix so there is relatively little pressure. We're all pretty shocked since I went into PTL with my son and was on bedrest for 6 weeks with him. I keep thinking my cervix length is ridiculously long for a twin pregnancy. My Peri has always been VERY happy with it.

Everyone is different on how the twin pregnancy effects them. Sounds like things are good with you.
