Logistics: Potty Training and Toddler/Twin beds?

So, potty training is starting to enter the backs, way back, of our minds. I was wondering if they HAVE to be able to pull their pants up and down on their own in order to Potty Train? Amanda is the only one showing even the remotest interest in potty stuff and she can almost get those pants up by herself but not quite.

Also, we don't want to move to toddler/twin beds for quite awhile. However, I was thinking that maybe you'd have to be in toddler beds in order to potty train so that they can go potty at night. Has anyone potty trained BEFORE transitioning to toddler beds? How did that work out?

Those are just some questions running rampant through my mind lately. I'd love to hear what the more experienced Moms and especially my March '05 Mommas did/are doing/plan to do.

We took the high road and moved them to toddler beds before potty training. It is much easier and you feel like you have done one important change for them.
My girls showed no interest in taking down their panties or pulling them up before we started. But once we started I told them to pull them up and down and they picked up on it. It took a couple of days to have them learn how much strength they will need to pull up and down.
I seriously would think about moving to toddler beds first. But also, we have our girls in pull ups at night as they don't night train right away. I do put a potty chair in their room just in case they wake and want to go-but I don't think that is ever going to happen.

Night training and day training are two totally different things. For example, my son who was day trained first--over a year ago, still wears a pull up at night. My son who trained less than a year ago, has not worn a pull up since he started to poop in the potty.

There are a few people who trained while the kids were still in cribs. According to my preschool, self help skills like pulling the pants up and down are definately a major part of potty training readiness. It seems as though the people who waited for multiple signs had their kids train quickly, and in some cases overnight. Those who tried to push it ended up with months and months of accidents.

Put night time WAY out of your head till they get day time done.If they show interest great.
I put all my girls in toddler beds aroud the same time as potty training...I either like insanity or want it all done at once. Sarah my oldest was in a twin bed at 2 and in panties sleeping...pure luck. I never trained her she did it herself I was clueless with the twins.

Pulling up pants is hard for kids. They don't have to know but trying helps. If your in a warm area try nakes baby training. No undies or pants at all. Messy at times but worked for us for all 3.

As you can see from one of my posts... day training and night training really are two different things, so I think it is totally ok to start the day training when they are still in cribs, when they go down for naps or the night, you will still likely put a diaper or pull up on them for a while yet... as for the pants on their own... my one could the other couldnt.. but since we helped them for the first while to do everything in the potty room, i didnt see a problem with doing the pants for them [IMG]
