to those of you that have trained or are training - when your kids are pee trained but not poop trained do you put underwear on them or do you still do pull ups/diapers?

Abby is working on pee training and is doing ok - she keeps asking to wear panties and I told her that if she poops on the potty she can wear panties - she promptly told me she's not ready to poop on the potty and threw her panties back in her drawer

So how do ou work that one?

I switched my girls to panties as soon as they started training at 3yo. They were not ready to poop on the potty yet either but know not to go in their panties too. What ended up happening is that Paige would poop in her pull up for naptime and Ali actually held it till I made her sit on the potty untill it came out. I know that isn't good and it didn't happen everytime, she would go in her pull ups sometimes at naptime too. It took about a month for Ali to poop on the potty on her own. Paige though cotinued to poop in her naptime pullups for 3 months and then gave me the best present for my b-day. She ran to the potty saying she had to poop and it just clicked for her.

Amy, I have never used pull ups to PT, so mine just wear underwear and before they are poop trained, they just poop in their underwear. It is gross and I hate cleaning them out :bad:, but to me pull ups are just another form of diapers. It took Emilie about 3 months to be fully poop trained. We are still working on Trevor.

Honestly, if Abby wants to wear panties, I would let her. That is a good sign that she wants to wear them. Just keep reminding her since she wants to wear them she needs to poop in the potty. Poop training, at least for my 3, has always come after pee training. Good luck.

For one of my daugthers we put panties on her before she was poop trained (she also had a constipation problem and was on myrlax for that) so she usually went in her pants for a while. It was gross to clean but she did well going pee on the potty so I didn't want to punish her by not leting her wear her panties sinc that's what she wanted to wear. My other daughter got both pee and poo trained at the same time. My son right now (we are training will go poop on the potty and let us know he has to go but we have to keep on him to go pee), he usually isn't wearing anything though we are bottomless training.

I've got poop and pee on the brain now since I just started attempting to train the boys (they're almost 2 1/2). I've been putting just undies on them, and we have had probably a dozen accidents by now. Our first poop ones today actually. It was messy, but not terrible. I was right there with they did it, so it wasn't squishing out and getting on things. I honestly don't know what the best answer is...this potty training can be a bit tricky. I have lots more thoughts and comments on the topic, but not enough time to post!

We are in our second week of potty training. They are almost 3 1/2 yrs old.....DEFINITELY time to be rid of diapers. Anyway, they are doing VERY well w/ peeing in the potty (at home and while we're out). Although I do put a pull-up on them when we go out and at sleep times. One tends to hold his poop (even though he's on Miralax) or will just go in his big boy pants but has gone early in the morning upon waking. Over the last week and a half, Grayson has gone in the potty twice but he doesn't like it. He doesn't mind flushing it but for some reason doesn't want to poop in the potty. The other one goes in his pull-up although he has gone one or twice in his big boy pants.

I have tried to stay home as much as possible and have only put them in big boy pants..no diapers except sleeptimes or while we are out. I am thinking I will start putting big boy pants on under the pullup or just lose the pull up all together when we go out. Right now, I'm just trying to make it easier on me. =)

Oh, back to poop, Grayson will try to poop and make skid marks in his pants. When that happens, I make him go without pants until he poops...that's how he went on the potty....and the playroom floor. lol

    Good luck!!
