Little red dots after 15 month shot

The paper the dr. gave us with the shots said to expect soreness, redness, and tenderness as well as a fever. It made no mention of little red dots appearing. DS has a pretty bad injection site reaction as well as a littl (100.3) fever and this morning these little red dots seem to be appearing and increasing in number.

    Any ideas?
He is acting fine otherwise, a little moody maybe but it is hard to say that is a cause for concern as they are always grumpy lately!

Do I need to call the dr.? They did mention hives as a sign of an allergic reaction but I really do not know what hives look like and these spots that he has are little, perfectly round, and red. They kind of look like dots from a red pen.

    Thanks!

It would help to know which shot it was. The MMR and chicken pox shots can cause a reaction/rash about 10 days after getting the shot. Hives are big and swollen like mosquito bites and not like the little dots that you have described. If he just got the shot within the last day or two, then maybe it is an allergic reaction. It can't hurt to call and ask.

I agree with the pp. I would definitely call the doctor and ask. Did they get the chicken pox vaccine? We have friends whose DD got chicken pox after the vaccine.

I'm also curious what shot(s) he got, since we don't get shots at 15 mos around here. I have heard you can get a rash like look from the chicken pox vaccine, too, but since we haven't had it, I'm not sure. I have also heard that the rash for the chicken pox vaccine can be contagious to other non-vaccinated kids (that's how my friend's 4 mo old got chicken pox), so just be careful.

As with any rash, fever, etc, I would call the Ped. Could be a shot reaction or something completely different.

    Update when you find out!

I would call too! We don't get our shots until 15 months we delayed ours. Which ones did they get?

Good Luck & Keep us updated!

I woudl call- sounds like it also could be Hand Foot Mouth. We got it around 16 months and it looked like someone took a red sharpie and put dots on their hands, feet and chest.......low grade fever too.

It was the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine.

I called and the nurse said that since they had just had colds that sometimes a viral rash follows the cold and perhaps this is what it is.

Sounds odd to me, but, whatever. If it does not go away or gets worse or other symptoms I will call back. Thanks for you input ladies!
