DD has very fine hair & it's just now starting to grow a little. She's got this little ducktail going on in the back & somebody said it looked like a mullet!!!! Anyway, ds and I both need haircuts and I'm wondering if I should make an appt for dd, too. She's never had a haircut & I'm pretty sure DH will not approve.......but I'm wondering if it might help her hair fill in a little better?

You can't tell very well in this pic; I'll try to get a better one.

My girls all have fine hair (thanks to me). They get haircuts quite frequently. It tends to get ratty, stringy, & mullet-y if we let it grow. I think hair cuts do help give the appearance of thickness.
However, your dd is adorable! Either way you win!

DH was out of town for 8 days & when he got home he was really excited b/c he thought her hair grew while he was gone. :(

Your DD's hair looks like my Lily's. I am going to leave it for now but will probably get it cut soon. Lily's is really "fly away" and I think it tends to look like a mullet also. It does curl in the back; however, so I am hesitant to cut the curl off!

I am from the south where we "shave" a baby's hair to make it thicker.... That being said, I have my first girl and ummm. no. Poor thing has enough problems. You have two choices that I know of... shave her like a marine and pray it comes in thick OR twist her little "mullet" or "small pony tail" and then snip it. (I understand that feathers the ends).

I have fine hair and it looks MUCH BETTER with a cut. I know you want to preserve every fraction of an inch but really, it will look less wispy with the ends evened out. FWIW, mine is only curly when it's short. The weight of length makes it hang straighter so "cutting the curl off" sometimes results in more curl, not less.

That said, I know a girl who is in 2nd grade and has never had a haircut. The ducktail is now in the middle of her back and it doesn't look like a mullet anymore... but it does look ragged and the kid is afraid of getting her hair cut.

Emma's hair was like this and my hairdresser said to cut it to promote growth. They can do a slight trim to clean it up a bit.

We're still working on the baby mullet look here!

I do get the girls bangs cut and this last time, she took about an inch off the back to help even things out, so when the sides do catch up in length it won't be such a dramatic difference. It looked so nice when it was done!

We just gave my little girl a trim. She also was having a mullet look to her hair. When we first got it done, we did not like it. However, within two weeks it has really thickened up and now she has a really cute hairdo .

I agree, I think you should get it trimmed up. The girls' hair looked longer when we cut the "mullet" off, even though it was shorter.

Both of my girls have hair just like Zoe's - I am having a hard time cutting it but 10 minutes after I brush it it looks like I have never touched it with a brush! DH would totally freak out if I had it cut but I am thinking of just a little trim! I have bought ALL kinds of shampoo and nothing makes that big of a difference.
so maybe just a trim by someone who knows what they are doing!

When we finally cut Hannah's hair, I thought, "Why didn't we do this sooner." She went from fine, ratty-looking baby hair, to tamed, golden big girl hair. Plus, when I put bows and things in it, her hair didn't look so unkempt.

I have really fine hair and my mother told me she used to keep it cut (and short) based on advice from several hairdressers. I can't really tell you if it worked, because who knows if my hair would be even finer and more flyaway, but that was the advice back in the 70s.

My girls have hair that looks just like your DD's, except theirs isn't quite a long. I do think that cutting it on a regular basis will help keep the flyaways down and make the hair look slightly fuller.

(side note: my poor girls. Why could they not have gotten their dad's glossy dark brown, thick, wavy hair? It's not fair!)

a lot ppl are encouraging you to cut it, so i thought i'd chime in on the other side (not to confuse you, i swear)

about 2 months ago i was seriously debating cutting my daughter's hair... we've never cut it, only trimmed it, and the ends were just so frizzy i couldn't take it
but instead we started using some dry hair shampoo and thicker conditioner... and now we only wash it every other day
wow! what a difference it has made already

now i'm SO glad i didn't cut it... it's long and wavy, and i'll be keeping it like that until she's older and wants it cut

I think just trimming a little bit would be good. Karina's hair is also fine and wispy -- the only one in our family with wispy hair! -- and she's also got something that kind of looks like a mullet. I'm giving it another month or two, and then I'll probably trim it...

We just got Kevan's hair cut a little while ago, and it's amazing how full and thick it has become since then. It used to be baby-fine and soft, and now it's bushy big-boy hair. I have no idea how one hair cut can do that, but it did....

Lila's hair was really similar & my husband didn't want to cut it either. I insisted & got it cut in a little baby bob & it looked SO much better, even my husband had to admit it was an improvement. It just evens up all the ends so it looks tidier, you know? It was amazing how much thicker it looked just by evening out all the ends!

I really want to cut my girls hair - it is really fine and if it's not up it does kind of look similar to a mullet. My dh won't hear of it though! I wonder how to convince him....
