Austin has a little cut right where his nail meets the skin on his little finger and it's gotten quite red and puffy... he always has his fingers in his mouth, so I am not sure what to use on him to clean it out. I don't want to put anything like neosporin on! Any suggestions?

I don't have any suggestions, sorry! Could it just be red from it being in his mouth? Maybe a band aid?

I think a bandaid sounds like a good idea. Or just use a baby wipe to clean it off.

Oh, hmmmm, that's a tricky one. Their hands are in their mouths constantly, so I would worry the band-aid would come off and he would eat it! I guess I would just try and keep it really clean(peroxide? and then pat dry), and take him in if you suspect it looks infected.

You can get vitamin E oil capsules and poke a hole in it to squeeze some on his cut. It really helps it heal, plus it's edible.

Don't use a bandaid, choking hazard. But before bed when there's less chance of him sucking on is fingers, a small bit of neosporin (we're talking tiny little bit) should help.

It's just because it's being irritated being in his mouth all the time, and it'll probably go away even if you don't do anything about it!

One of my boys had a blister on his thumb that looked infected so the doctor gave us an antibiotic ointment that wasn't supposed to be eaten. Tell that to a 5-6 mo old  After some time of thinking I came up with this. After I cleaned and put the ointment on his thumb, I put a band aid on, than I put a mitten(the ones we never used when they were babies cuz they were falling off) on his hand and than tape it to his wrist. So this was he wasn't eating the ointment nor the band aid and the mitten didn't came of until I took of the tape. I had to change the mitten few times a day cuz it was all wet.

Unless it looks infected, I would just keep it as clean as you can and keep an eye on it. It will probably heal up just fine. I agree that bandaids are a choking hazard, but most small cuts don't really need to be covered anyway.
