At 18-months, our ped recommended giving the twins liquid vitamins with iron. Within a few days, my son's teeth starting turning grey. The box says may cause tooth discoloration. Called the ped who said to take kids to the dentist to make sure it is the vitamins vs. problem with enamel. He said if it is the vitamins, it is easy to buff them out. Has anyone had this happen? I am afraid of permanent discoloration. Apt with dentist is not until March.

    TIA

Both my twins were on the liquid iron supplement also. I stopped giving it to one of the girls and her discoloration went away within weeks. The other twin (who should still be on it, but I stopped giving it to her)still has discoloration on one tooth.
My girls are set to go to the doctor for their two year checkup on the 22nd of this month. I hope to have some answers then. Let me know if you find out anything before then. How old are yours?

My son John had this problem, but only on one spot on the front of his teeth. I took him to the dentist and he DID have a slight imperfection in his enamel. I brush it daily and put the drops FAR back in his mouth and we've had no problems since.

We've been using the drops for many months without gray teeth. I give them in the tub and then give the front teeth a quick wipe with the washcloth as soon as they swallow so the vitamins don't stay on their teeth. I am SO looking forward to switching to chewables!

Although my kids are not taking liquid vitamins, this topic really interested me since I bought some and still haven't used them. After purchasing the vitamins, I found out that lots of them contain too much lead and often either have not enough of the vitamin listed on the box or too much. Reading your post about greying teeth concerns me as well.

Since then, I have switched to Juice Plus (they come in gummies for kids). I cut them up for my kids, and they love them. They taste like candy, and we have no problems with them taking them. I have never heard of anyone taking Juice Plus and later having grey teeth. BTW, it is the most researched product in the supplement industry, so I know my kids are safe taking it. If you want more info, please let me know. I'm happy to send you some pamphlets and even some samples for your kids to try. Or, you can check out my website below. Just thought you might want to know of another, safer alternative.

I hope your children's grey teeth go away quickly, and that you don't have to deal with it again. [IMG]
