It is a flat spot with no apparent bite marks or anything like that. We live in FLA and have a dog who stays in our yard or is taken on walks but no random wandering in woods or anything like that. Anyway, I first noticed this red spot two days ago and it is quite bright red at this point. She does not itch it or anything like that. They had their 12 mos. shots ont the 3rd of June which I though may have caused this odd looking mark; however, I was just talking to my mother and she mentioned lyme disease which freaked me out. Does anyone know if this type of a mark can be a result of the 12 mos shots OR if it is indicative of lyme disease? She is fine otherwise!

    Thanks,
    Amy

My two have been reacting to bug bites. I hope it isn't anything serious! They ave been showing up as red circular humps.

It could just be ringworm. (Not actually a worm, don't worry! It's just when you get athlete's foot somewhere other than your foot.)

Is it solid red or is it a ring with a lighter (or white) patch in the middle of it? The ring could be either ringworm or lyme disease. Lyme is unlikely but serious, of course. If it's just a solid red circle, it's probably an insect bite.

I took one of my guys to the doctor a few weeks ago with what I thought was an infection of some type in the middle of his forhead (it looked awful!). She said it wasn't infected and looked like an insect bite. I guess she was right because it started fading after a couple of days and took about two weeks before I didn't notice it at all anymore.

If it fades in the middle but keeps an outline of red, that would be the characteristic bulls-eye rash from a Lyme-disease infected tick. However, that rash occurs only 40% of the time. It sounds more like a spider bite.

Could be almost any of these things. As far as a shot reaction, is it at the injection site? Because then it could be a reaction. My kids also get eczema spots that look like red rings with their allergies. If I put a little hydrocortizone on it and it disappears, then I know that's what it was. But it does sound like a bug bite. However, if it's getting bigger, I would probably be concerned and watch it. I'll tell you what my dr had me do to see if things get bigger. Draw around the outside of the circle with a pen. Then check it in the morning and see if it grew.
