This may be a stupid question but do you leave a light on in there room for your babes? I keep thinking they might be scared but I also think they may just go back to sleep when they wake in the middle of the night.

Off, for sure. But we have a nightlight. It's dark enough for them to sleep, but light enough that I can see them throughout the night.

Our monitor has a nightlight built in, I always use the bathroom light when I go into their room It shines just enough down the hall to see in the crib.

We have the room light off, but we have a nightlite attached to the crib that has a timer on it. It goes off after I think 10 min. by then they are usually asleep

Lights off-we have a nightlight on the monitor and also a very dim one by the changing table that way I dont have to turn on lights in the middle of the night to change diapers and feed them-I think lights would wake them up and it would be hard to get them back to sleep.

I always left the lights off.

The first evening my mom put the girls to sleep (they were about 8 months old), she left the light on! She oculdnt' figure out why the girls wouldnt' go to sleep! I guess that's the way she always did it with us and assumed I was leaving lights on too.

We have a lamp on their dresser/changing table with a dimmer that we leave on very low. We leave it on so we can see when we go in there, not for them. There have been nights when the light is off though, and they don't seem to notice the difference.

Off. I remember reading somewhere that nightlights can actually be damaging to their sight since little ones often sleep w/ their eyes open. (and one of mine does!)

Mine have always slept with the lights off. Especially now that DS wakes up when it's daylight!

Same here really dim, because their nightlight isn't bright enough for me to check in on them. Howver i did think they would be afraid of the dark if they just woke up and was completely dark. Who knows I never tried it. Another reason I eep the light dim is because I think if it was completely dark and I turned the light on they would wake up. But then again the sleep through the sunrise and daylight. So who knows?

Lights off, but bathroom light(down the hall, about the same as a nightlight) on. In the hospital, the nurses would come in the room and turn off the light, and both boys would wake up screaming!! So when we go home we started doing it too. Now, even if the boys are at his moms for the night, we leave that light on out of habit!! lol...makes us feel like the boys are still there!

we have a dimmer on the overhead light and we keep that on but very dim. I forgot one time to leave it on and they woke up screaming in the middle of the night...not sure if it was from that but I don't want to take the chance again!

We have a night light for them. I think a key is that the room should look and be the same to them when they fall asleep and when they wake in the night. We didn't use a mobile before putting them to sleep for that very reason. Then when they wake in the night, they would be unable to turn the mobile on for themselves. We wanted to give them a consistent feel to the room.

Light off, no nightlight. Our girls' room is pitch black at night. Our pedi recommended removing the nightlight when they started STTN because they were not sleeping restfully.
