Life Expectancy on a Sippy?

In the past week I have thrown out 4 Nubys. Some are leaking around the ring/lid, Some are leaking from the nipple (but I'm pretty sure it's because my little beavers have gnawed holes into them  ).

Just curious, what kind of life expectancy do you have on your sippies?

I didn't have much luck with the Nubys. Mine kept putting their fingers in the spout and making a hole. I would also notice small pieces would break off in the spout so I worried about them swallowing it. I have used the Playtex and Munchkin cups. Some of them are even from when my 6 yr old was little! You can buy replacement valves for them without having to buy a whole new cup. That was another complaint I had about the Nuby. I know they were cheap enough to just buy another cup, but that just didn't seem practical to me. Gerber has a soft spout cup that I gave mine after I tossed the Nubys. It was a good transition to the hard spout cups.

My Nubys always died quickly too...and I dont use them anymore. Thank god they were cheap. I now use anythign with a straw and or Playtex Hard nipplie sips. Id say 4 months MAX before they get grody! Its worth it for me to buy the throw away ones now too...

We use the First Years disposable ones -- the cup part will last forever, but the spouts get pretty chewed after a couple of months. We throw them away when they look really ratty or when they crack and start to leak, whichever comes first.

Wow - I have some of those Gerber ones that we have had for close to 2 years, and still going. We never had much luck with those Nuby ones.

Same here! I've had some of the same Gerber hard spouts since we first started with sippy cups. I did have some lids crack around where you insert the valve, but I emailed Gerber and got a reply back that they are sending me new lids, free!

We use mostly Gerber's and some I had left over from older DD and they are still going strong. We have some Gerber with the handles- they hold about 7 oz. and also some that change color when liquid is added, wtihout handles. Sometimes the vavlves come out but other than that, they are great. I have never had to throw any away.

We used the Playtex hard spout sippies and they lasted for quite a while. All we had to do is replace the valves occassionally. We never actually had to throw the whole cup out because it was leaking. Then we moved onto straw cups and we found the most durable ones to be Munchkin brand. They were durable, easy to clean and you could buy replacement straws for them.

Sounds like Nuby's aren't that good! I'll have to keep that in mind when this baby needs them.

We have Gerber's too that they've used for almost a year with no major issues. The valve sometimes falls out if they bang the cup a lot, but that's an easy fix. We also use the Take n Toss ones, but like a PP said, the lids get chewed up eventually. But I still like them for outings so I don't have to worry about losing one. You can replace 4 of them, for the cost of 1 regular sippy.

The life expectancy on my Nuby's was about 2 weeks. I think that is about how long I stuck with them before I got so darn frustrated with them and threw them out. Our playtex ones have lasted a lot longer. My parents still have several Playtex ones left over from the other grandkids that my twins now use. Those have probably been around for 3 or 4 years.

My Nuby ones have lasted about 3-4mths so far but I am thinking about tossing them since they are leaking more and my son can now drink from a hard spout sippy. I now use the sippies that my girls had from 4yrs ago (they used them for 2 1/2 yrs and I just saved them) and they are still in good condition (they are playtex and Gerber).

Ah, it looks like our Nuby days are numbered, then. I like the Nuby's b/c they were easy to clean and didn't have a bunch of extra parts to keep track of.

The boys would drink out of anything I gave them. I'll try some of your suggestions. Thanks.

    Ditto.

We do however still have some of the playtex ones with the hard spouts that they go through little spirts of wanting to use. We have had them since M&T's shower, minus the plastic spout stops.

The Nuby's we've had have only lasted 4-5 months. But get this - I kid you not - I have some Playtex sippies that are 7 years old! I just made sure to buy a lot of replacement valves. I've never had a problem with them.

That is a good question! We have some playtex and some Gerbers. So far they have lasted a long time. I just threw out my first one because the inside white thingy broke. (I don't know what they are called!) I am ready to throw another one away because it treads have become weird and it won't screw on properly. We have been using all of these sippy cups since they were 14 or 15 months old...so almost 7 months.

Never tried the Nuby brand. It doesn't sound like they last long tho.
