hello lovely mothers to be of twins! i just got back from my 16w5d ultrasound. I am going on the 8th to get my level 2 targeted ultrasound. I wanted to know what this was so i looked it up. Is it really going to be about 2 hours long?! I would love nothing more than to watch my babies for that long but i just don't know if i can 1. not pee myself with someone pressing on my tummy and 2. lay on my back for that long because i can barely lay on my back for more than 20 mins. without being in pain. Anything i should know that? or what i expect?

yep! 1 hour per baby sounds about right. you can always stop and go pee if you need to--the techs are used to that ;) and you can roll on your side a bit if you need to-even prop yourself up with a pillow.

Mine were that long or longer depending on if the babies cooperated. As the pp said, the u/s techs are used to breaks for you to pee and you can lay on your side if you need to.

I haven't had a level 2 u/s but my other u/s have last a little over an hour. Usually 45mins per baby. But the last time I went (last week) I asked the tech to prop the bed up so I wasn't laying flat. She didn't have a problem with that at all. I wasn't sitting up but wasn't laying flat back either. It was perfect. She also said I could roll on my side depending on which baby she was checking.

I agree with pp's. Just be sure to not suffer in silence. Talk to the tech about your needs (comfort or bathroom needs) and they should be accommodating.

They may get shorter with time. THe first couple we had were about 1 1/2 long but as time went on they turned into only 40minutes to an hour.

Thanks Jennybean for this question. We have an ultrasound scheduled next Tuesday and they told us it would last at least an hour and a half. I haven't heard the term "level 2," have to google that. They did explain the ultrasound was going to be so long because they had to really check out the babies and take lots of measurements to make sure they're developing properly. And we will find out the genders!!!!!
It's always so good to read about so many other women going through the same things as me. Thanks ladies.

They're fantastic! I absolutely LOVE my ultrasound appointments! The place I go (I have no idea if this is common or not...) had a nice flat screen up on the wall to watch instead of having to watch the machine where she is watching. My 20 week was the longest, but I came out with 6 feet (no kidding) of 2D black and whites and about 15 3D pictures. A little quicker and a few less pictures at the 25 week (but still a lot). I'm sooooo anxious for June 7th for my 31 week!!! It does take forever though as they measure everything, look at kidneys, hearts, etc

Mine was 1h45m and I had to attend the ladies room once in between babies.

Each of my Level 2 growth scans is about an hour to 2 hours long depending on 1) how quick the tech is and 2) how cooperative the babies are. The place I go to leaves you at 45 degrees so you are almost sitting and I'm able to do that much longer than being on my back but they ask periodically if I'm doing okay on my back, if I need to pee things like that. And if I need to adjust or go to the bathroom before they ask, I tell them LOL. They are pretty accommodating.
