    Happy Monday fellow TSer's,

We have our level 2 scheduled for tomorrow, this u/s serves as our only genetic test so to speak. I am very nervous. Can those of you that have had your level 2 please let me know what to expect... will they tell me on the spot that they notice something wrong etc?

    Hi,

We had our Level II last week and it was also my first trip to the Peri. They did a detailed scan of each baby...looking closely at their hearts, brains, bones etc. They take measurements on the babies too. Our Peri estimated their weights for us which was fun to find out (10 oz boy and 8 1/2 girl).

I was nervous before my appt too, but try to focus on the fun aspect of this u/s...you get to see your babies for a long time! Our appt lasted about 1hr 45min and we got some adorable pics.

Good luck and please let us know how it goes!

When we went in for our level 2 the u/s tech looked over each baby individually and took all the measurments/pictures that the perinatologist needed. She spent about a half hour on each baby. She was very nice and told us what she was looking at, but I know the techs aren't allowed to tell you if anything is wrong with the babies....all results of the ultrasound have to come from the doctor. Then she left and the doctor came in. He did another ultrasound and looked at the babies and told us they both looked fine. If he saw something wrong he would have told us right there on the spot....which was nice. Our level 2 also was our only genetic test. We were able to also find out the genders.

Good luck.....I'm sure everything will be fine!

    Hi there!

The only thing I recommend is to take your own pillow. Like someone mentioned, it is a very long and detailed exam and the pillows are usually pretty flimsy. All the techs where I went thought it was awesome that I had done that. Even if there is a good pillow on the table, you might want it for under your knees or lower back.

Enjoy the show!! I loved those appts, it was so much fun to see the two of them kicking and hitting at each other!

My u/s usually lasts about 35 - 45 minutes. The tech spends a lot of time measuring. My husband asked if everything looked good and was okay. The tech said - I'm not allowed to tell you that.... but if something was wrong I would have left the room to get a doctor. At my last one I got nervous because the tech left for a second - but, it was just to pick up the pictures she printed for us :)

You'll get plenty of time to look at your babies. Enjoy it!!

They look and measure all the organs, belly, each leg and arm bones. They look to make sure everything is there and where it should be. They will also beable to tell you the sex if you do not know. They also will take a look at the placenta.

Durring this u/s they do measure what the pp's have stated...heart, bones etc. They'll also check to see if there is the right amount of amniotic flud as well as checking the brain for fluid and that it's the right "size". At certain times they'll also watch for "practice breathing" and you'll see the stomach moving out and in. They also check for movement such as large motor....arm movements, flipping and such. Our baby this time had issues with moving at one u/s and it took him half an hour...he must have been sleeping. Speaking now from experience about if they find something wrong....our ultrasound tech said she'd be back and that she had to call the doctor b/c the baby wasnt moving like he should but she'd only given him 5 min....they normally do like 10 or so. Anywyas, she came back in and said that he was on his way from home....this was at nightas i had been admited. So he got there and then is when they told me that she had found a heart defect. She later apologized numerous times b/c she couldnt tell us then but she said if she's not sure then why tell the paretns....that's why they arent aloud. They have to wait for the doctors. Assuredly, if the tech sees something and the doctor agrees with it then i'm sure they'll tell you. That would be precious time to waste if you could hlep the problem that they find or more prepare yourself for an issue or defect. Get what i mean? So dont be worried there, they'll tell you. HTH, other than that, good luck and you get to see your babies! Be excited!

Hi, from my experience, if you have a pernatologist doing the ultrasound they will tell you on the spot what they notice. If you have an ultrasound technician doing the ultrasound, they will not tell you anything except for maybe the genders; you will instead receive a call from a Dr. later discussing what they found. Best of luck at your appointment! They are pretty fun really, cause you get to see the babies.

The peri came in to see us right after the u/s to tell us that the babies looked good.

The tech who did my first level II scan told us about the CPCs on Baby B's brain.

Because of that, I was referred to a peri. At that appointment, the tech told us that she couldn't see any evidence that the CPCs were still there, but that the doctor would tell us more.

Our level II and our growth scans have ben with perinatal, and that tech kind of told us things as she went. We didn't have anything wrong though with our 21 week level II.

Last week we had a scan to look at Baby B's heart and a growth scan (with perinatal) and she still told us what she found (which was good news as well.)

The regular techs when I get normal ob U/S don't say as much until they talk to a DR. With perinatal the tech told us much more and ten the Dr came in and spoke to us afterwards.

BTW: I have had about 20 U/S so far!!!! 4 with perinatal only.

The level 2 u/s for me took about an hour, and they just went through and measured different parts of the babies, checked their organs (like their brain, hear, kidneys etc...) and measured the fluid around each baby. It really depends on your u/s tech if they will tell you on the spot. Mine did, but she also knew my husband and I. I think some of them are required to have the Dr. look at them and make the final decisions if in fact anything is wrong. I think it took about a week for my Dr. to get the final report. It is a lot of fun though, I loved being able to watch the babies!!
