I had their 2 month check up today and the Dr said to let them CIO when I put them down for bed.

I really thought that 2 months was way to young for that...

As it is I feed the babies and rock them to sleep or almost sleep... then put them down. My DD can fall asleep on her own but DS needs to be rocked.

The DR's idea is to put them down and let them cry till they fall asleep ...even if it's an hour or more and never go back to check on them... I think he's an idiot....

    What are your thoughts......

    Thanks,
    Jodi

I think it's too young. My doctor said if they cry at about 2-3 months or younger it's because they need something. From what I have read babies start learning how to settle down on their own about 2 months. I feel like they need a few months to "practice" before you let them CIO. Also (this is just my opinion) I feel like if you let them cry for an hour then they fall asleep, at this age they will just wake right back up to eat in about 2 hours, so whats the point...it seems like it would be harder.

My LO's are 2 months now too and I still need all the sleep I can get...so if that means holding, rocking, putting them in their swing or whatever that's what I do. They go to sleep quicker then I can sleep! :)

I never really did CIO with my other children but they usually slept good. I don't plan on using it with the twins either. Ofcourse I will let them fuss and cry some but I have just never been able to do it and stick with it.

    Good luck!

    that is entirely too young.

honestly, i'm offended your doctor would suggest that and i'd find a new doctor.

personally, i'm not a fan of letting a baby cry for an hour at ANY age, but definitely not before 6 months.

i did not do CIO with my twins and they both have learned wonderful sleep habits. they might fuss and whine for 5 minutes when they are having a bad day, but i try to soothe them if it gets longer than that.

I agree with you Jodi. IMO it is too young, i did CIO at 5.5mths and it was absolutely the right time for them but i could not of done it any earlier. At that age they slept in carseats and swings, i rocked them both to almost asleep. I would continue what you have been doing, i don't see a problem with this. Around 4months old our sleeping took a huge turn for the worst mainly because of illness, i ended up havin one that was very dependant on being rocked and like i say i did CIO when they were ready and they now sleep beautifully.

Jodi, do you really like this doctor? Or you willing to switch? :aggressive: You are 100% right, they are too young to CIO. I'm sorry he told you that. :( At that age, they are too young to self soothe and more then likely they need something from you, even if it just a little comforting.

    Thanks for the advice...

My mother's instinct thought he was an idiot... I won't be talking to that Dr anytime soon...

and BTW.. I was talking to one of my friends and the same DR misdiagnosed a broken thumb on their 9 yr old daughter just 3 weeks ago.... WHAT AN IDIOT!!!!

    THANKS AGAIN,
    jODI

I think he's an idiot. :pardon: Most peds recommend 4-6 months for CIO. Personally, I waited until 6+ months to do it. I didn't feel comfortable with it before then. Find a new ped, definitely.

Well I may get beaten, but we did it at 9 weeks. I have not looked back and am thankful that I can put the boys into their cribs now completely awake and walk away. They are asleep within 10 minutes and they sleep through the night.

I could stand the crying, but that is just me. BTW, they only cried for about 30 minutes before they were asleep.

Two months is entirely too young. They lack the ability to self soothe at that age & they need the comfort of knowing that you are there to see to their needs if they wake up in the night. I agree with everyone else, I would be looking for a new ped. Your mommy instinct is important, listen to it!

:clapping: for following your mommy instinct and ditching this doc! My boys were born at 33 weeks and my dr. told us to wait until they were over 6 months. We did it at 7 months.

Ditto everyone else! I did it at 8 and 10 months with my older 2.

Just this week we let the babes "fuss" when we put them down, but i check them often and usually take dd out to snuggle for a minute, she's having more trouble settling herself than ds.

My gut instinct is the same as yours...that's way too young. You know your babies better than anyone else so do what you know is right for you and them. You can not spoil a baby that young.

I'd have to agree, for us 2 months was way too young for CIO. We weren't comfortable with it until they were 6 months old.
